Windows 7, Network detection/profiling & the firewall
Hi, I work for a small business with 2 remote offices. I am preparing Windows 7 PCs to go to a remote office because they don't have any IT staff on site so I have to setup so everything can be done remotely. However Windows 7 now has this network awareness features in which it assumes any new network it's plugged into is a potential threat until you tell it that it's a 'safe' work or domain network, this appears to auto configure the firewall for maximum protection. This is nice and safe but renders me unable to remote into the PCs once they reach the remote office. Is there anyway to disable this feature? I have tried disabling the firewall completely (and put VNC on as backup) but this appears to be overridden once a new network is detected. Thanks!

Hi, How about disabling network location awareness service? If it doesn't work, it seems there is no way to disable this feature in Windows 7. For more information about network location awareness and its use in Windows Firewall with Advanced Security, please refer to: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc754893(WS.10).aspx Best Regards, NikiPlease remember to click "Mark as Answer" on the post that helps you, and to click "Unmark as Answer" if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
