Windows 2000 Share
I recently installed the RC for Windows 7. Before that I had the Beta that was released. With the Beta I was able to map to all the network shares on my network. All of them Windows 2003 server machines except one that is a Windows 2000 server. I use a .bat file to map to all the shares when I log on. Now with the RC, I an unable to map to the Windows 2000 server drive. I can see it when I browse the network but when I try to access it, it prompts me for a username and password. I've tried my log on, the administrator log on and 20 other log ons. Each returns the error that my username or password is incorrect. I know they are correct because others in my company are logged on through Windows XP and they can connect and autheticate fine to every drive. When I try to run the .bat file, it prompts me also for the username and password. I then get a system 86 error has occured, the specified network password is not correct. I have done a little searching on this forum and didn't see my issue. I understand the release client just came out but was curious if anyone else was having this problem. If you need me to provide anymore information I would glady provide it. Thanks

I too have the exact same problem. I can log into my XP machines to access their shares (and vice versa) but can not get into my Win2k network shares. I have tried every combination of username and password but it keeps saying they are not correct. Odd problem. -Aaron

I too was unable to map my Windows 2000 server shares. I found this fix on the Windows7forums.com Networking forum: Lervik 05-09-2009 11:23 AM Mapping a network drive in Win7 RC I have trouble mapping a network drive in RC. I didnt't have a problem mapping it in the old beta, but with the new RC I get the error message 'wrong user name and password' (I 'm 100% sure the username and pass is correct). It is a network drive on my university and I connect by using a domain. The really strange thing is that I can access some network drives, but not all.I have no idea why I can't access, any ideas?---- UPDATED! PROBLEM SOLVED ---Google had the answer :)If anyone experience the same kind of problem, here is the solution of the problem:- Click Start- Click Control Panel- Click System and Maintenance- Click Administrative Tools- Double-Click Local Security Policy- In the left pane, click the triangle next to Local Policy- In the left pane, click Security Options- In the right pane near the bottom, double-click "Network security: LANmanager authentication level"- Click the drop-down box, and click "Send LM & NTLM responses"- Click OK

I tried this but it didn't work for me. I could always see the shares from out 2000 server but I can't get the printers to install, even with the latest drivers.

Same problem here, but Win 7 Home Premium doesn't offer access to the Local Security Policy. I have tried changing the authentication level on the Win 2000 machine to NTLMv2, which I believe is the default on Win7. Didn't work.I have checked user/pass/workgroup/sharing etc andhave no problem with the other PCs on my network. Any other ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

Got there eventually. Not sure what it was in the end, but some combination of authentication levels and firewall seemed to do the trick.
