Windows - 7 Start box
Well I tried customizing startup properties to visualize the"allprograms" list. The space is blank. I mean, when a click on START the most used program icons are there; when I click on "All Programs" it appears on the botton left the "back" arrow but no program folders or names. Is there a solution for it or is is one of Windows 7 bugs. I upgraded from Windows Vista Home Premium directly to Windows - 7 RC version. Is there anyone that could help me directly through the forum or indicate another venue.

77- You say you upgraded from Vista. This is not a unique issue. It seems to have popped up numerous times and there are some other threads with the same issue.IF you have a folder on your hard drive called Windows.OLD, you might be in luck. The Windows.OLD folder/Tree contains a back up of your Vista installation. You can try to copy the contents of your Vista All Programs menu to your Windows 7 RC All Programs menu. Since I did a clean install, I have no way to test this - but, as long as the registry entries from the programs installed under Vista came across during the upgrade, it should be a simple matter of making sure you've got all of the shortcuts. The Vista versions of the All Programs start menu should be under C:\Windows.OLD\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu. The User specific Windows Start Menu items should be located under:C:\Windows.OLD\Users\<userID>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\

Well Wolfie2k6, I didn`t creat such a folder and Win 7 didn`t either. Guess my luck went away when I decided to try Windows - 7. One never can say: "I won`t goof again" this wasn`t the first and won`t be the last time I am careless.

77 - Well.. It was worth looking into. I did say "IF"... You can always try and see ifyou can access your various apps by way of going to the location where they've been installed and running the EXE directly - such as Word can be found at C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office??\WinWord.exe ...If that fails, you might just have to repair install (if possible), or uninstall (if possible) the app and reinstall.

Wolfie2k6 here am I again. I looked at the Windows - 7 " ...\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu" folder and e v e r y t h i n g is there. For instance: "Accessories\System Tools" is there among a l l the other programs. Now te me if you know how, how do I make them appear at the Start Menu? Thank you for becoming interestet in this issue.

77 - Hmm.. You say the folder appears in the correct place on the hard drive - but isn't showing up in the menus.. That is weird to say the least. I'm not 100% sure how to get them to appear but, there are a few things we could try and see if we can fix the problem.1.) If you've got an app or game of some sort you don't currently have installed, please try installing it to see if it shows up by itself on the menu.2.) Try renaming the Accessories folder in Explorer - C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Accessories - to Accessories1 and see if that shows up. If it does, go ahead and rename it back to it's original name. See if it's there again. If that works, it'll be a matter of renaming the other folders under Start Menu\.3.) You can try moving the individual folders - such as Accessories - to another folder and then moving them back. If that doesn't do it, I'm seriously at a loss...

Wolfie2k6 you made me think and I found a "solution". Sent the Programs folder to the desketop. It`s not ideal but it`s still a tool. Better than nothing.

77 -Ok... I suppose that's a work-around... But did you try any of the solutions and did any of them work?
