Hi, Windows update has been failing now for several weeks. Error code 80070308. Upgraded from Vista Home premium to Win 7 RC using the clean install option. Initially windows update used to work without issues. Based on another dialogue about Windows update, tried some initial things including renaming the SoftwareDistribution folder under windows and then gathered some info files and pasted in skydrive for your reference. skydrive url: http://cid-71ea058f7efafca9.skydrive.live.com/browse.aspx/.Public Sql Server 2008 install fails as well. Switch to Large icon view and click troubleshooting icon. 3. Click System and Security. 4. Click Windows Update and click Next. 5. The wizard will check and solve most of the known problem. If the problem still persists, let us continue with the following instructions. General Windows Update Troubleshooting The following outlines how to stop services pertaining to Windows Update, rename system folders, register related DLL files, and then restart the previously mentioned services. This troubleshooting generally applies to all Windows Update related issues. Stopping services pertaining to Windows Update 1. Click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. 2. If you receive a notification from User Account Control simply click Continue. 3. At the command prompt, type the following, commands and then press ENTER after each command. net stop wuauservnet stop bits net stop cryptsvc 4. Please do not close the Command Prompt window. Renaming folders pertaining to Windows Update 1. At the command prompt, type the following commands, and then press Enter after each command: 2. ren %systemroot%\System32\Catroot2 Catroot2.old 3. ren %systemroot%\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old 4. Andy - Success with first 3 "stop" commands but the next 2 "ren" commands fail because "access is denied" and, yes, I'm running as Administrator. Any suggestions? Thanks. Bruce
