Windows & Re-Encrypting Decrypted files from Windows XP
I know this sounds strange. We are re-imaging machines from Windows XP to Windows 7. Files are encrypted via EFS on the Windows XP side. We are decrypting them on the Windows XP machine and then copying them to the Win 7 machine. Very strange thing is, when copied the are immediately showing up green(as encrypted). If we decrypt on the Win 7 machine, it takes the full time decrypt. Another trial we attempted was decrypting fully on the XP machine, copying files to usb key, and then copying to Win 7 machine. Same thing happened. How is this instant full encryption happening? Have anyone seen? Anyway to avert? thanks

Hi TLM2010, I agree with you and it's a little strange. Does the issue occur on each file on only certain file? At this stage, I suggest you encrypt another folder and test the issue again. Meanwhile, please also refer to the following article to decrypt a file on Windows XP. How to remove file or folder encryption in Windows XP Thanks, Novak

I ran into this same issue, but I upgraded my computer from XP to 7, and than i was informed that i did not need the "Windows (old)" file anymore, so i deleted that. Now i have tons of pictures and videos of my daughter as a baby that i cannot access anymore due to that encryption that makes the file show up green.... anyone know a possible solution, or is all of that lost?
