Windows7 x64 Enterprise - SP1 disables Remote Desktop - missing RDP functionality
Windows 7 Enterprise x64 SP1
Installing SP1 (update KB976932) disables Remote Desktop functionality (System Properties/Remote tab will not show the "Remote Desktop" Section under the "Remote Assistance" section). The issue is known to MS.
Manually changing the registry keys
[HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server]
"AllowRemoteRPC"=dword:00000001
"fDenyTSConnections"=dword:00000000
will not help.
Removing SP1 (update KB976932) brings things back to work.
Does anyone know a way to keep using RDP with Windows7 Enterprise x64 after installing SP1? Is it a strategy from MS to prevent people to use it correctly? According to my experiments this happens only on the Enterprise edition.

I have the same problem and my problem is that i used Windows 7 SP1 slipstream cd so i cant even uninstall sp1.. Any way to get it working?

However i have windows 7 enterprise 64 bit running on my laptop and i am fine. (and everyone else in my organization)
Is it possible that your download for sp1 was corrupted/incomplete and as a result you are seeing issues now with it.
I would try following:
Uninstall sp1
Stop windows update service
delete "C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution" folder
Start windows update service
Run windows updates to scan for new updates (wuauclt /detectnow)
Install SP1

It's not an error message. Simply there is no more RDP (Host) functionality. The issue is known and documented by Microsoft, and I have the feeling that it is not a "bug" at all. If you click on the sevenforums link from Brano Lukic, you will see how it
appears on the "System Properties/Remote tab".

I would find it very strange, because I had the same behavior on 3 machines that are absolutely independent from each other, and download updates separately. Furthermore, when I investigated the problem, I even found somewhere an official document from MS,
saying that on this version RDP will be disabled by SP1, but maybe I am just not remembering it correctly. Are you sure that your systems are "Enterprise" and not "Professional"? On the Pro version everything is running fine.

Yes, it is the enterprise version.

Dear Brano,
as promised I followed the procedure that you have suggested. As you can see, after removing SP1 everything was working properly.
then I downloaded the SP1 for this architecture (file windows6.1-KB976932-X64.exe to be precise) so that I am sure that there were no issues with downloading corrupted files. I also stopped windows update service, cancelled the folder "C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution",
restarted the machine, and installed SP1.
But as you can see I am back at the starting point:
I guess we need someone really deep in detail with the operating system to clear this matter out.
Any other reasonable idea is welcome.

This definitely seems to be a problem with the SP1. I have even seen some posts where the same has happened on the server 2008.
Strangely enough I just checked my home computer and I can see the same. Although in my case this is “Windows 7 Home Premium” and this seems to be expected
behaviour for this version of windows based on what I have found on the internet.
However everything still works for me. I can start it by running “mstsc.exe” and I can connect to any server that I need to.
What I am thinking is that SP1 has read your version of windows incorrectly and applied itself as if your version was Home not Professional or Enterprise.

wait: this is not an issue for me. As a client, nothing bad happens. I am only talking about "RDP host" functionality.

The issue is actually solved: this problem happens when Windows has not been correctly activated (i.e. via crack or similar stuff).
I tried the whole thing on the same system but correctly activated, and there are no issues on RDP functionality after SP1.

I am experiencing this issue on a legally activated version of Windows 7 Enterprise.

For me it was resolved next way:
run cmd or powershell with administrative permissions and enter next command:
slmgr.vbs -ipk <your windows license key>
After reboot the problem gone.
