Windows7 home group sharing Printers will show error 0x00000001, PC joining home group cannot see the shared printers but can see and share all folders between the home group computers
This issue just started about 4 days ago after years of happy printing across the homegroup computers. Nothing that I know of has occured to commence this problem. The printers cannot be seen by the remote PC that requires to connect to the printers through the homegroup. The printers, 2 of, one laser and the other colour inkjet, were both showing on the so called remote PC but were showing as "offline", I tried to find a means of setting them back to online but nothing would perform this function. I read a suggestion that I should remove the printer and then reload it. I removed the printer and that's when I found that I could not see the printer across the homegroup network to reload it. I have rebooted the gateway and both PCs and turned off the firewalls and virus protection programs and closed down the homegroup and the recreated the homegroup and just about every other basic start-up and set-up process you can think of, and nothing gets back my functional printers through the remote PC. I have even physically removed one of the printers from the main PC and removed the software and then reconnected and reloaded and have ensured I have the latest drivers and this all made no difference at all

Hi, First, please try the steps in Why cant I print to a printer in my homegroup? Meanwhile, try to clear Printer Spooler files and enable the spooler service a. Click Start, type "Services.msc" (without the quotation marks) in the open box and click OK. b. Double-click "Printer Spooler" in the Services list. c. Click Stop and click OK. d. Click Start, type "%WINDIR%\system32\spool\printers" in the open window, and delete all files in this folder. e. Click Start, type "Services.msc" (without the quotation marks) in the open box and click OK. f. Double-click "Printer Spooler" in the Services list. g. Click on Start. In the Startup Type list, make sure that "Automatic" is selected and click OK. Also, you can try to rejoin the homegroup for test. Hi Vincent, Have done what you suggested and no relief to my issue. Have removed printers and uninstalled all software and drivers and reloaded printers and updated drivers and this made no difference. I can actually restore to a point in time when I did have the printers shared in the properties area and still I cannot see the Printers within the Homegroup. Have exited homegroup and then restarted the homegroup many times now, I automatically do this after I try yet another process in hope that I can resolve the issue, but nothing changes the fact that my Notebook cannot access the active printers on the desktop PC I have tried all the possible microsoft troubleshooter actions for printers and networks and homegroups and every othe function they can perform and nothing changes my situation I even tried loading the printers onto the notebook and relocated the printers back to the desktop and then connected back to the homegroup to see if I could fool the issue, but that also did nothing, printers immediately fell back to saying they were offline. These issues all started on approx. 6th December and microsoft have had a lot of heavy upgrade traffic since then, has some issues been introduced by an earlier upgrade that is still being worked on, it's not as though this has not happened before

Hi Vincent, Had already done this, however Restore is available on the Desktop PC but not available on the Notebook. The result was that Printers would for a short while show as Shared but still were not visible to the other Notebook on the network. Then after trying other processes to overcome the issue the Shares would soone r or later disappear in any case. Regards, Gavin

Hi Gavin, Please try to test the issue in Clean Boot mode to check whether this issue is affected by the third party tools. Also, change another user account for the test. Regards, Vincent Wang TechNet Community Support Same Problem as Gavin to a T. I tried all the same - no help. I tried 'Administrator' account and ran "rundll32 printui.dll,PrintUIEntry /il" (add printer) from an elevated command prompt. When I get to the step to choose sharing or not and click NEXT, the sharing option generates the 0x00000001 error, the non-share option works fine and printer functions normally locally. I have XP Mode running under my Win7x64 Ultimate and just now for the first time enabled that printer from XP Mode. I also enabled sharing and it showed up right away over the network on all my x64 machines (Win7-local, Win8, WHS). Of course it didn't actually work because x64 vs. x86 (I never did get that "additional driver" thing figured out). When I released the device from XP Mode, everything went back to previous broken state. This may not be relevant, but I did apply a fix a month ago when the network file service on the XP Mode node was reaaaaly slow. I believe it was only one small registry change, but there may have been a netsh command or two as well... and I don't remember which registry (win7x64 or XPMode). Ring any bells? Soooo... now my wife wants to sit at MY computer to do her printing, so you can see why I am motivated to get print sharing fixed! (; Thanks for any more troubleshooting ideas!? Cheers, Phil
