Look on your system drive (usually C ) and look at the Windows folder name. Like Windows or WINNT. Modify following as appropriate. If your Windows folder is C:\Windows. Look at this folder C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download If you find files in there, delete them. That folder is where files are stored from Windows Update downloads. Go back to Command prompt window. type in net start wuauserv & press <Enter-key> Type into the command prompt EXIT and press <Enter-key> Now try again a visit to Windows Updates. Hello Maurice, Thank you for your help. Unfortunately Im not successful with the upgrade. I followed your Instructions and have seen the following differences. Cryptographic Services is missing in MSCONFIG, but it is present SERVICES.MSC (Network Service)When I type net stop wuauserv in the CMD window, I get the message: System error 5 has occurred. Access is denied. (I tried in different Folders to start this service without success.) I ignored this message and deleted all files in the \Download folder.When I start the net start wuauserv I get the message: The requested service has already been started. More help is available by typing NET HELPMSG 2182, but there is nothing. After to try Windows Updates I got the error code #80070002 and # 80246007 Then I got the error #643. I followed the instructions in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/KB976982 I did Method 1 with Fix it. This did not help, so I went to Method 2. When I type uninstall in the search box, there are coming programs up like Programs from Blurb, and Canon. Blurb I uninstalled, but Canon and different other I did not, instead I went into the Control panel and executed the Uninstall a Program and did the Repair of .NET Framework 4 Client Profile to its original state. The repair did Not Succeed Installing the Widows update after the reboot is coming up still with the error #643 Badly I cant see the update history anymore. It was cleaned out but form memory I think the fault came up the first time some when in January thought. I think also all other updates are installed except the Net Framework. Now Im thinking loud. Can I uninstall and reinstall the Net Framework 4 Client Profile new? Why I have .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 installed but the Client Profile 4? I would do a new Installation with Windows 8, but Its still a bit far away thought. What happen if I let the system in the status how it is, and then update asp as Windows 8 is out with a new Installation? Approx 2 days of work until all Programs are installed. KB 2633870 (ticked) KB265351 (ticked) KB2656368 (not ticked) KB 2600217 (ticked) Then I have 38 Otional Updates nVidia and 4 DreamScene, I'm donwloading all of this now, but unticked all .NetFrame so they will be excludet. It's in total 392 MB (nVidia) driver so it will take awhile but I will wait until it's done and let you know the result. Here is the last Update log. Hi Maurice, I have 4 Important update all .Net Frame oriented. Hi Maurise The update went trough went trough well. I have only the 4 NetFrame as Important Updates. the 33 Optional are only language packs. I think I go soon to bed but I will send you the last log file here. Tomorow morning I will try to upload the NetFramwork again and I will do one by one starting witht the Update (KB2600217), and after ths the Security Update starting from the top KB 2633870, KB265351, KB2656368 I'm thinking again loud now. I the system works from the top to the bottom with the upgrades, It tryes to install the Security Update first befor the Update to Framwork 4. I think I remember I have still NetFramework 3.5 SP1 and 4 Client Profile installed. Minimum this would make sence to me, but I have no Idea, just thinking loud and sometimes this helps. Hi Maurise The update went trough went trough well. I have only the 4 NetFrame as Important Updates. the 33 Optional are only language packs. I think I go soon to bed but I will send you the last log file here. Tomorow morning I will try to upload the NetFramwork again and I will do one by one starting witht the Update (KB2600217), and after ths the Security Update starting from the top KB 2633870, KB265351, KB2656368 I'm thinking again loud now. I the system works from the top to the bottom with the upgrades, It tryes to install the Security Update first befor the Update to Framwork 4. I think I remember I have still NetFramework 3.5 SP1 and 4 Client Profile installed. Minimum this would make sence to me, but I have no Idea, just thinking loud and sometimes this helps. Thanks for this hint with the driver to use the manufacturers then the window one. I tried now to upload the NetFramwork (KB2600217) alone and got again the 643 error. Hello, Somehow the updates KB2633870, KB2656351, KB2600217 desapaired and I have no only the update Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Client Profile for Windows Vista x64-based Systems (KB982670) present. But I can't update this one either. I get the error Code 0643. I tried everything of http://support.microsoft.com/kb/976982 and the pages on the left, removed all NetFrameworks, Reinstalled NETRramwork 1.1 with dotnetfx, and SP1 with NDP1.1sp1-KB867460-X86, and NET Framework 3.5 with dotnetfx35setup. I ignored the error codes of incompatibility versions and unable writing keys. I tried also to install .NetFramwork 4 and NetFramework4 Client Profile from the Windows download, (dotNetFX40_Client_x86_x64 and dotNetFX40_Full_setup) both with a not successful installation. In the installed programs I can find only .NET Framework 1.1 and 3.5 SP1) but now .NET Framework 4 Client Profile for Vista x64. I'm trying now for days, probably I would be better off with a new installation, even if it's about 2 days of work to install all the programs and updates. The other option is to wait for windows 8. So your error is 643 in hex (hexadecimal). We know it's hex because the error message is irrelevent if decimal. Use calculator (View menu - Scientific. Click Hex then enter 643, click Dec (decimal) and it will say 1603. Click Start - All Programs - Accessories - Right click Command Prompt and choose Run As Administrator. Type net helpmsg 1603 And it will say Fatal error during installation. This is not a useful message. I tried everything of http://support.microsoft.com/kb/976982 and the pages on the left, removed all NetFrameworks, Reinstalled NETRramwork 1.1 with dotnetfx, and SP1 with NDP1.1sp1-KB867460-X86, and NET Framework 3.5 with dotnetfx35setup. I ignored the error codes of incompatibility versions and unable writing keys. I tried also to install .NetFramwork 4 and NetFramework4 Client Profile from the Windows download, (dotNetFX40_Client_x86_x64 and dotNetFX40_Full_setup) both with a not successful installation. Download Process Monitor (procmon) from http://technet..microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896645 It doesn't require installation. It's in a zip file and will work anywhere you put it. You can even dbl click it in the zip file. Double click Procmon. The program opens to the Filter dialog. To get back here click Filter menu - Filter... The filter dialog has four drop down comboboxes or listboxes along the top of the dialog. Enter the following critera into the drop down combo/listboxes and click the Add button after each line. Process Name Contains wuauclt.exe Include Result Is Not Sucess Include Two rules should have been added to the bottom listbox. Click the Ok button. Go to the Filter menu and make sure Drop Filtered Events is ticked. Now start the install. In the Result column we are looking for File Not Found, Name Not Found, or Path Not Found if it's a file problem. If you have Excel you can sort the data there. In Procmon click in the Event list, press the Home key, then Shift + End. Then click the Edit menu then Copy. Switch or start Excel and choose Edit menu then Paste. Go to column G and choose Data menu then Sort.
