Window 7 - Password Expired Prompted When Using External ISP
I installed Win 7 in a laptop and join the company domain successfully. Everything looks fine at this point. Then, I shut down the laptop, unplug the company LAN cable (no need to use companyInternal Network) and plug another externalISP LAN cable(for connecting to external Internet) to thelaptop. When the window login window comes up, I loginusing something like "<domain_name>/login_id" (keep as it is), then enter the password. It prompted me that my password is expired and requires me to change my login password. The situation is strange as in win XPenvironment, it always allows metologin even though I am using the external ISP LAN cable without changing "domain name".Does anyone have the similiarproblem and got any hints for this? Thanks

Hi, I suspect that you are using your domain account to logon when connecting to the External ISP. If so, please connect back to your domain network and change the password. Then, connect to the External ISP to see how it works. To check the issue, you can also logon the computer with a local account to see if you are prompted to change a password. Thanks. Hello Nicholas,Yes the case is exactly what you mentioned. However, I am just wondering whyI did the same thing in the other WINXP laptop, there is no change password msg prompted. What I did were in my Win XP :1. External ISP LAN cable is connected to the laptop Win XP2. Login the Win XP using my domain a/c3. I can get into the Win XP environment without any password expired and changed msg prompted. Of course, in this case, I am not allowed to access any of the company network and internal resources. If I did the same thing in Win 7, for step 3, I won't be allowed to login and also password chage msg showed. Any hints are appreciated.Thank youRegards,Derric Lam

Hi Derric, I would like to suggest you connect back to domain and change your password to see if you will be still prompted. Since this Windows XP is not in your company network, you can also connect it to you company network to check how it works. Thanks. Nicholas Li - MSFT
