Window 7: Files slow to open
A user on our Windows 2008 network has trouble opening documents first thing in the morning on her Windows 7 desktop. It can take 3 to 5 minutes to open a Word or Excel document saved in her Documents folder which is mapped to a network drive. The green progress bar in the Explorer window is extremely slow. Once the document is opened it can be opened again in an instant. She was also having a problem with documents she would save and then disappear later on. I disabled the offline files feature and while the disappearing act went away the slowness has not.

Hi, How about accessing other files (other type) on the network shared folder? If copy the files to local computer, will it be opened still slowly? Please take the following steps to troubleshoot this issue: 1. Temporarily disable Firewall and third party antivirus program on the computer for a test. 2. Boot the system to Safe Mode with networking and see if the issue persists. If not, please also boot to Clean Boot environment to determine the possible cause. 3. Check if you can access the share folder with “\\computer name\folder” or “\\IP Address\ folder” to open the files. 4. Check if there is any issue with the local Word or Excel document. If there is the problem with the Word or Excel document, this issue can be Office product related, it is recommended to post a new thread in Microsoft Office Forum for discussion.
