Windons 7 File Transfer use with a Hard Drive Enclosure
I have hard drive enclosure that has a usb cord to plug to. The enclosure has information from two user profiles from my old Windows Vista machine, with music, photos, documents, etc. I have a new laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium, and would like to use Windows File Transfer to move files from the hard drive enclosure to my new machine. Is this possible? If so, what do I need to do to make this thing work? I want a simple and correct way to transfer all of my data to the right places on my new machine. Your solution will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

If I recall, the "Windows Easy Transfer" feature has to be installed on the old PC while it's still working. But even if you can't use the wizard, transfering the files from your old drive shouldn't be too hard. As you said, just through the drive into an enclosure and plug it up into the new machine. It should show up as a drive E: (or similar) in Computer. Once viewing the drive, you'll see a folder at the base of drive called, "Users", and inside that you'll have your old username. You should then be able to just copy and paste from the Pictures, Music, and Documents folders inside into your current folders on the new machine. Getting mail can be a bit trickier, but I can walk you through it if you need help.
