Win XP hibernatiopn problem
+I am trying to set up a schedule to wake my computer up from hibernation and run my AV scanner during the night. The computer wakes up OK and the scan starts, but after 5 mins the computer goes back in to hibernation and thus the scan stops. Is there a way to stop this happening?1 person needs an answerI do too

billf680 , what you need to do is go to your Power Options in control Panel and set you System hibernation to as long as you anti-virus runs. To create a Power Profile in Windows XP, 1. From the Start menu, select Control Panel 2. Select Performance and Maintenance 3. Select Power Options . Your system should display the Power Options Properties dialog with various tabs. The number of tabs will vary based on your manufacturer and if you have a UPS . Notebook systems have extra settings so you can set a scheme for when youre using direct power or batteries. 4. Click the Hibernate tab. Check the box if you wish to enable this feature. 5. Click the Power Schemes tab. 6. Set your options to suit your needs. If youre on a notebook, make sure that your hibernate time is less than your battery time . Otherwise, your battery will drain before the option can kick in. 7. Click OK . We may be use to cheap and abundant energy, but there is little need to keeping your computer fully powered. Microsoft and various hardware vendors have improved the power management systems. The bigger question is whether you should use Stand By, Hibernate or both. Good Luck! Thanls Adamjy, sorry I haven't answered but I've been a guest of our National Health Service. Have got the timing as you suggest but am still having the problem. It seems that when the computer wakes up at the correct time, which it does, then unless I actually click on something within % minutes it just hibernates again. I can't seem to stop it and being there to click on something rather defeats the object of the exercise. Bill

billf680 , There is an option in you BIOs that will allow your computer to come out of any state to run a scheduled program. I don;t much about it I have seen it in there while I was playing around in my BIO's. Good Luck!!Please rate me up if you find my post helpful. Thank you!

Thanks for that. The computer does come out of hibernation and starts the programme running. The problem is that if there isn't some form of external input, like a key click, then after about 5 mins it goes back into hibernation and thus the programme stops. Bill
