Win XP Pro SP3 loses config settngs on reboot.
Running Win XP Pro SP3. Upon machine reboot it loses settings for programs like: passwords, mouse settings, programs access register numbers, addressbook entries. Tried "Repair" from original CD; but, it still looses all those settings upon computer reboot. Any suggestions and solutions will be greatly appreciatedSadnewbie1 person needs an answerI do too

Hi,1. Did you make any other software changes to the computer recently?Method 1.Let us run the sfc scan first and check if there are any system files missing.Refer:Description of Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 System File Checker (Sfc.exe)http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310747Method 2.If the issue still persists then create a new user profile and then copy your current users setting to that profile. For more information refer:How to create and configure user accounts in Windows XPhttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/279783How to copy data from a corrupted user profile to a new profile in Windows XPhttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/811151How to recover the damaged user profile in Windows XPhttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/555473 Hope this helps. Thanks and Regards:Shekhar S - Microsoft Support. Shekhar S.First of all thanks for your reply and suggestions.I did run each of the methods suggested. On Method 1, the sfc scan it ran and did not ask for the installation CD and did not give me and message when it finished. On Method 2, I did build a new user profile, Configured it and recover any damaged following step by step the kb mentioned in your message.Aftter all this and doing it one step at a time as instructed i the kbs. all seemed fine deleted the old profile turned the machine off and later returned to it rebooted and all contacts had disappered in the address book. and in Outlook Express. The registration codes that allow some programs to run also had disappeared all this just as before. Sad to say there was no solution to the problem. I had to reenterall numbers and reimport the contacts. Tried agan by turning off the machine (Start-> Turn Off Computer-> Restart) . When ready all info had disappeared.Well, I gues I have no other choice but try the Repair from the original CD and if that doesn't work a clean reinstall of the Win XP SP3. I still dread to that. Thanks again for your hel and assistance.Sadnewbie.
