Win 8.1 & Windows Deployment Server

Hi All,

Can someone please help. We are currently building a windows deployment server but have come across an issue with a batch of laptops. The laptops have a win8 chip, come preloaded with win 7 with a 8.1 upgrade disk. We cannot seem to get any ISO that will work with these machines. Everytime we load the OS windows refuses to activate which would mean we'd need an ISO on our WDS server for every laptop. Has anyone ever seen anything like this or know a way around the OEM license with laptops?

Hi,

If your machine are using OEM license, it can only be used to active OEM version Windows. Dpending on your OEM version, there might be no article bout if these versions of Windows can be captured and deployed by using WDS. Since these rights are completely hosted by OEM manufacturer, I guess you need to contact with manufacturers for more information.

You might want to take a good look at Reimaging Rights.

You also might want to look over some of the ramifications of OA 3.0 (embedded product keys).
