Win 7 x64 looses CUPS printer whenever it sleeps
I have my printers connected to a CUPS print server running on Ubuntu 10.04. Everything has been working well with two XP laptops (32 bit) and an Ubuntu 10.10 laptop. I just added my first Win 7 (64 bit) to the mix. I mapped the network printer by searching for network printers, finding the printer, and adding it that way. Sometimes it finds the printer right away, sometimes it takes a couple searches. Once mapped, it works until the laptop goes to sleep. After waking, the printer is still there but will not process any print jobs. Based on suggestions online, I have also mapped the printer manually (using the ip address and printer name). Sometimes this works, sometimes not. If it does work, I loose it again when the laptop goes to sleep. I also tried the "net use LPT2...." command. Windows did not accept my command. If I can't get this working soon, my wife will want me to downgrade to XP. Wondering if Win 7 x32 bit would solve my problem or if this is a Win 7 issue.

Hi, I suspect that this issue is caused by the driver which is not fully compatible with Windows 7. Because the printer server is based on UNIX operating system, so we can not test this. It is beyond our support in this forum. But I still can give you some cues, when the issue reoccurs, you may try to ping the printer server to see whether the connectivity is good. Also, you may consider to restart the printerspooler service as a work round.
