Win 7 unable to start
I installed Win 7 Ultimate to a clean Hdd. It installed ok. and I worked with it for a while. Then started installing applications. Rebooted severl times during the process. Then suddenly when I tried to start up Win 7 it came up with the repair screen and then said it couldn't fix it. I have tried several ways of booting but all get the same result. Even tried using the DVD to bring it up and repair. Still doesn't work. I rolled back to before each installation until I got to the original without any applications and still it won't start up. Any one have any ideas?

mlweekle - Have you tried to do an in-place upgrade? That is, run the install process but install on top of your existing installation without reformatting. This should reset Windows 7 to it's default state when you started. Any apps and data you may have on the drive will be left alone. If that STILL doesn't fix the problem, you may wind up having to do a clean install again.

Hi, Before going any further, I would like to confirm what exact error is received. To troubleshoot this issue, please perform the following steps: Rebuild Boot Configuration Database ================================ 1. Please insert the Windows 7 DVD and reboot the computer. 2. When we are prompted to press a key to boot from the DVD, please press Enter or the space bar. 3. Click "Next" and click "Repair your computer". 4. In the System Recovery Options dialog box, click "Command Prompt" and type in the following command. Please press Enter at the end of each lines. BOOTREC /FIXMBR BOOTREC /FIXBOOT BOOTREC /REBUILDBCD BOOTREC /SCANOS 6. If the command is successful, please close the Command Prompt window and reboot the computer.Vivian Xing - MSFT
