Win 7 to Vista network connection problem
I have a home network with one Win 7 Laptop and two Vista Desktops. The Laptop will Always find one desktop but only occasionally find the second desktop. I have checked my connections carefully following various turorials and am certain that they are correct. Yet, when I have the network mapped from the Laptop, one desktop shows "Open" when the icon is right-clicked, and the other desktop icon, while present, shows nothing when right-clicked. Note: both desktops can find the Laptop instantaneously, all the time. Any suggestions? Thank you, seattlerust

Is there any third party firewall install on the particular desktop other than windows firewall? Under advanced sharing setting, ensure network discovery, file and printer sharing, public folder, home group connection etc is checked and enable. Btw have you try mapping using IP or host name of the comp that you're trying to access

Hi Daniel, No luck with that either. When I try to map the public folder on the desktop, it cannot locate it. This is also true when I try to connect from Windows Explorer, even though the computer appears in the map. By the way, when I let Win 7 run a network diagnostic, I receive the following: "Your coputer appears to be correctly configured but the device or resource ( other desktop computer in this case) is not responding". Seattlerust Do a ipconfig /all and get it's IP address of the comp u're trying to access, say if is 192.xxx.0.100 (example) next under search and programs, type the following \\192.xxx.0.100 if everything went smoothly, you should be able to access the share files and printer

Hi, I would like to confirm that have you tried to disable all the antivirus programs and firewalls to test the issue? I also would like to suggest you read the following article to configure the network: Networking home computers running different versions of Windows Regards, Arthur Li - MSFT
