Win 7 runs too fast, doesn't sync with BIOS?
Just installed Win7 RC 32bit (then 64bit instead)on a seperate partition with WinXP Pro 32bit. The HDD is a SATAII drive and AHCI is turned on in BIOS. The M/Board is an ABIT A-S78H with the current BIOS release. Both versions of Win7 have the same problem, when you boot into the install the Window on the splash screen flashes like mad then when you get to the Login screen the cursor also flashes like mad. If I try a USB keyboard then one key press adds 10+ enteries in the password field. I can use a PS2 keyboard that lets me login but everything runs too quickley, the clock, for instance, wizzes round likecrazy and minutes are like seconds! If I load IE8 the news pictures on MSN home change very quickly, more like a very fast slide show. The progress bar, when installing software, flies across really quickly. The odd thing is, both 32BIT and 32bit installs worked for a few days with no problem! Nothing has changed in BIOS. I now have gone in to BIOS and reset to defaults etc but its still the same.Any clues? I think its just a hardware issue with the M/Board. Just a note, Win XP is fine with the same set up and has been since the PC was rebuilt late last year. Hope for some help,Rick,UK.

Just a thought, Try disabling HPET in the BIOS. More info on this hardware feature can be found here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_Precision_Event_TimerWindows 7 x64 RC, Asrock K8NF6P, AMD64 3200+, 1.5GB RAM, Palit Geforce 8400GS 256MB, 500GB Maxtor SataII, Asus 1814BLT optical

Cheers for that!Thats it, now the obvious questions......1, will this make any difference to my XP 32bit install if left switched off?2, will it have any adverse effect on Win7?I have tried both and they seem fine. I guess this is a driver issue with the m/board. I have the latest drivers for Vista already loaded. Abit don't really support stuff any more though, maybe they may add a Win7 driver soon, lol.CheersRick.

There should be no adverse affect at all on XP as it won't even recognise it even when it's there :) As for Win7 I can't give an an answer apart from when I have it enabled I notice no difference from when it's not enabled.Windows 7 x64 RC, Asrock K8NF6P, AMD64 3200+, 1.5GB RAM, Palit Geforce 8400GS 256MB, 500GB Maxtor SataII, Asus 1814BLT optical

AutozoomaDisabling HPET worked a treat for me but it took awhile to find it in my BIOS. It lives in the power management section, have you tried there? I did have a quick look on the Asus support site and there was loadsa pages refering to Win7. Maybe its worth having a look there?Good luckRick.

HPET works fine on my Asus board. Probably a BIOS patch is needed to fix the problem.Vote if answered or helpful, I am running for Office (joke)! IT/Developer, Windows/Linux/Mainframe See my site for detailed machine information

I'm in the same boat. Updated the bios to the latest version. No HPET option anywhere in the BIOS. Asus M4A785TM-M Tried it with XP 32/64, Vista 32/64 and Windows 7 32/64. All OS's work great expect for Windows 7 32 and 64. Tried swapping the HDD's, RAM and using a pci-vid card along with the onboard one as well all in different config's. Everything worked with all OS's except for Windows 7 32 and 64. Anyone else with a possible solution other than throwing out the mobo as it's past 30 days since I've bought it and it's for a client system who is demanding windows 7. Any help would be appreciated.
