Win 7 pro client cant connect to domain running server 2000
i am trying to connect a new Win 7 pro computer to our win 2000 server domain. When i go to join the domain, I type in the name and get a user id/pw prompt. i enter the correct info. I get the following error: "an attempt to resolve the DNS name of a domain controller in the domain being joined has failed. please verify this client is configured to reach a dns server that can resolve dns names in the target domain". I can add computers with other operating systems without anytrouble my server is running windows server 2000 sp 4

Hi, Would you please let me know if you use an router? If so, please disable DHCP on the router and have the server DHCP provide IP with the correct settings. After that, please set DNS manually. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Change-TCP-IP-settings Set Preferred DNS server to your Server DNS. Also enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP for testing. 1) Go to "Control Panel -> Network and Internet ->Network Connections". 2) Right-Click on the connection and choose Properties. 3) Click "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Version 4" in the list. 4) Click Properties, and then click Advanced. 5) On the Advanced TCP/IP settings windows, go to "WINS" tab. 6) Under NetBIOS setting, click "Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP", and then click OK. If the issue persists, please open an elevated CMD windows and type: ipconfig /all. After that, paste the result here. In addition, before adding Windows 7 to domain, make sure it can ping Server successfully, its IP is in domain networking. Ha ! I had the same probleme last month but with win 2003 server. I misconfigure the DNS on the server, What I needed to do is to put the router IP adress in the DNS serveur and tell the server to let the router do the DNS job. Let me know... ITBM
