Win 7 network access
Hi, In my network there are about 30 pc's. Some have win xp, while some have vista and some have win 7 installed in their systems. All of them are in same workgroup. Now, the xp systems can access other xp machines directly, even win 7 systems can access the xp systems directly. But the XP systems cannot access Win 7 systems directly. They have to type in the ip address of the win 7 systems to access them. Can anyone please tell me how to access the win 7 systems directly by the computer name & not by the ip address

Ensure that computer name is set correctly on that Win7 PC and also other computer can ping this Win7 PC's computer name. Probably can try with simple computer name and see how it goes. Ensure there is no firewall blocking on Win7 PC too. Hope this helps. dawooddoe Home Network & Wireless Network Help

Thanks for your reply. As I said earlier that win 7 pc is accessible by ip, but not by name. So, the firewall is already off, besides each and every pc's firewall is off. Even anyone is not able to ping using the computer name, only the ip address pings. Also the computer name is too simple - only 6 alphabets. Please HELP....
