Win 7 loses connection to file server
Hi All I've searched and cannot find anything exactly like my problem or no way to solve it. I have a Windows 7 Pro x64 SP1 machine connected to my domain. It connected to a file server running Windows Sever 2003 x86 SP2. Things work find but every now and then it will lose connection to the file server and all mapped network drives will disconnect. Pinging the server via name and ip gets a respose. Trying to connect with the unc path \\name or \\ip gets an error Unable to Connect. Restart fixes the problem straight away. (Until it happens again at a later time) Does anyone have any ideas on this one?

Hi, According to your description, I suggest to perform these tests to troubleshoot the issue: 1 Try to enable the local policy: Local Computer Policy\Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\Logon Enable “Always wait for the network at computer startup and logon” 2 Disable IPv6: a. Right click on the Network icon in the System Tray and click on Network and Sharing center. b. Click on Change Adapter settings. c. Right click on Network Adapter and Choose ‘Properties’. d. Uncheck “Internet Protocol Version 6”. e. Click on OK. 3 Temporally disable firewall and antivirus program. If the issue persist, try this method: Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Local Security Policy Local Policies - Security Options Network security: LAN Manager authentication level Set to Send LM & NTLM responses only Set the Minimum session security for NTLM SSP Uncheck Require 128-bit encryption Reboot the Windows 7 machine after making the change Hope that helps.
