Win 7 driver help
I installed Win 7 on my HP Pavilion a822n computer. Now I can not either return to XP or get on the internet with this computer. It has an onboard LAN controller (Realtek® RTL8201CL LAN PHY Fast Ethernet LAN controller). Devise manager shows a yellow dot next to the card referance. With out a working Lan card I can not get on the internet to fix the other problems Win 7 has caused. PLEASE HELP!!!!Thx, Mike

Mike, If you are posting to this forum you have a computer online, grab a USB drive and download the win 7 driver for your device.

I have not been able to find one that works. Do you have a link to one?

I searched on HP website and found it provided a tool "HP software update utility" to search for Windows 7 drivers instead of providing drivers directly:http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?os=4062&softwareitem=mp-62602-3&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=449155&lang=enWindows XP drivers are provided directly:http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=228&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=449155&lang=enYou may need to contact HP to confirm if there is a suitable driver they can provided for Windows 7.Meanwhile, if Windows.old folder is not removed after installing Windows 7, you can try following steps to back to Windows XP:How to restore a Windows 7-based computer to a previous Windows installation by using the Windows.old folderhttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/971760In addition, would you please help collect the hardware ID of the network card? You can find it with following steps:1. Click Start --- Control Panel, open Device Manager.2. Double click to open the network card (list under Network Adapter).3. Go to Details tab, select Hardware Ids, copy the content here.

I have the utility the link sends you to. It will not work. No network card drivers = NO INTERNET!!!!This utility requires internet access. Thanks for the input. I did finally get HP tech support guys to admit there are NO WORKING Driver avalible for the onboard network card. I have ordered a ethernet card from New Egg. It is the only one that I was able to find that says it is win 7 compatable. It should be here in the am. Hope it works!!!

Hi,I know it need internet connection. I just want to say that HP do not provide driver directly --- maybe there is no driver for Windows 7 on this computer. The new ethernet card should be a workaround for this issue and hope it can help you connect internet.
