Win 7 do not release IP when network is switched
OS: Windows 7 WiFi: Dell 1395 WLAN mini card When ever I switch network the IP is not released with DHCP enabled unless I provision as Static then switch back to DHCP. For example I am connected to Network A DHCP with IP of 192.168.1.100 then switch to Network B (different location). The IP remains the same and no Internet Connection. If I configure as Static with 192.168.0.25, connection is made. Then go back to DHCP it will get an IP of 192.168.0.111. The same thing happens if I go from Network B to Network A. My wife's Notebook also using Windows 7, switches properly between the same networks. Any suggestions to get DHCP switch as expected?

Hi, As I know, when switch from one wireless network to another, it will disconnect the current network, then connect to another one; when the network is disconnected, the IP Address should be released and it get renewed in the new network. Please try the following: 1. Please disconnect to the network and see if the IP Address still exists. 2. Update the wireless NIC driver. 3. Boot the computer to clean boot and check if there are any conflicts: How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7 Hope this helps. Thanks. Please try the following: 1. Please disconnect to the network and see if the IP Address still exists. Yes it always retained the previous IP address 2. Update the wireless NIC driver. Had already done that, including installing an older version. 3. Boot the computer to clean boot and check if there are any conflicts: There were no conflicts. Compared the TCIP Registry key in my wife's computer to mine and observed several differences. Changed my TCPIP registry key to match hers, except for the Hardware ID entries, Rebooted and now I can do my network hopping with DHCP taking care of the housekeeping.
