Win 7 blocking my website cpanel
I'm trying to upload a new website. I need access via port 2082 to access the host cpanel however everytime I try connection times out due to block. Can access via other computers on home network - they use XP and the same router. So not router and suggests it's Win7? Switched off Mcafee firewall - no change - so not that? Tried new rule in windows firewall and gave web address the port 2082 - no change. read elsewhere may be somenthing in host file? - looked at that but not sure what to do. So in summary can't use http://domain/cpanel. can use http://cpanel.domain/ but can't work out how to get FTP software to use this address this way round so can't upload. Be better if I could unblock whatever is stopping me access by the first address. Any suggestions please? Win7 samsung netbook RAM 2g BT router

Hi, Considering this issue is related to cPanel, it is recommended that you contact cPanel for help: cPanel Support Note: Microsoft provides third-party contact information to help you find technical support. Hi Leo, Thank you for the suggestion. Things have progressed since the post. Couple of days ago I left the computer on all day and when came back tried ftp software and it worked! I've tried Filezilla, cute ftp and FTP voyager. At this point they all worked. Turned computer off and when tried next day none worked. Likewise this morning - none worked left the computer an all day came back this afternoon - they all worked again. Just rebooted the computer - none worked. So not unique to any particular software just the system blocks ftp. So any thoughts please to what is going on here? The chain is Win 7, Mcafee and wireless to router. Is something reseting when the computer is on for a time? But is only temporary so when I reboot it defaults back to whatever which then blocks the ftp again until the reset happens again. I don't leave ftp open when away from computer and have now idea how long it takes for this reset to happen? So not sure is this a cpanel question now or a network question? is it a wireless issue? Hi, You can try to login with Clean Boot and close the firewall temporally to see if the same issue occurs. Also you can use cable instead wireless to ensure if the problem related with wireless. Hi Thanks for these suggestions - real progress. I tried Clean Boot - dropped out all Mcafee - no change. Dropped out windows firewall as well - no change. This suggested it was the wireless system. To run a cable was going to be time consuming so I tried something else. Looked through windows update - saw there had been a wireless driver update so rolled driver back (now to 2009 one not 2010) - no change so returned it back to the latest driver. Now went into wireless configuration and tried a few changes and I think we now have the culprit - eureka! I changed the wireless from 802.11b/g/n to 802.11 b/g and ftp works straight away. Switched back to b/g/n stops it again. Flicking between the two and it is repeatable, the addition of n stops ftp, so I'm assuming this is it. I checked the wireless router setting - that is a BT Home Hub 2.0 - that is set to 802.11b/g/n. So looks like we know what is doing it - any suggestions as to why please? Best

Hi, Does this issue occurs with other programs? Or only occur with cPanel? As you said it works well in Windows XP, you can try to use Windows XP Mode in Windows 7: Install and use Windows XP Mode in Windows 7 Regards, Leo HuangPlease remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. Hi Not that I'm aware of. Everything else I use seems ok. However now thinking about it I have noticed that the wireless connection drops ocassionally and recovers on its own. That is not due to weak signal as the signal indicator is showing full strength. Also I tried switching channels on the router to see if there was any interference - no change same problem on a new channel. Meant to say before that the ftp setttings are standard - using port 21 Sorry I can't try your suggestion as this is a netbook and only has Win 7 starter and not able to add Win XP mode? The details for the wireless are: Realtek RTL8192E Wireless LAN 802.11n PCI-E NIC driver is: 2000.4.201.2010 Best

Hi, Yes, Windows 7 starter do not support Windows XP Mode. . I suggest updating your Windows 7 Starter to professional or ultimate because Windows 7 Starter has the fewest features of the Windows 7 editions. As this issue doesn’t occurs with other programs, I still suggest you asking cPanel for further help. Thank you for your understanding. Hi Thanks for your help. It got me to the point I could identify and isolate the problem if not the solution yet. No matter at least I now have a workaround. Best

Hi Just noticed when looking through another thread - one that has attreacted a lot of viewing and 'me too' comments that one of the replies highlighted the exact same problem I've discovered i.e. the n setting on their wireless caused performance issues. I've noticed since i switched off the 'n' setting fr my wireless the general performance is faster as well as allowing my ftp access. The thread I'm referring is http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itpronetworking/thread/6fba5b08-f767-4d06-b0ae-9e87afeb1ddb slow halting internet performance after Windows 7 upgrade The responder is MsTara. In case any help Best
