Win 7 VPN Connects Can't Modify or Save Files
I have a client who uses VPN to a SBS 2003 server. XP and Vista clients work just fine with no issues. One of the users has recently gotten a Win 7 PC and is able to connect, able to enter \\server name and see all of the directories. However, when he tries to save a file he gets the error that his user id has no permission to save files. He is connected to the VPN through a user name that definitely has permission. The error that he gets tells him that the id that is trying to save is his local Win 7 id. I'm assuming there is a setting somewhere that is not in XP or Vista that we are missing.

This should be an authentication issue. In Windows 7 the default NTLM authentication level is NTLMv2. Please install the hotfix mentioned in the following article and enable NTLMv2 on the server. A user is not successfully authenticated when NTLMv2 authentication is used on a Windows Server 2003-based IAS server Or you can downgrade the level in Windows 7. To do so please locate to the following policy. Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\Security Options\Network security: LAN Manager authentication level Change “Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated”.
