Cleaning of the registry isn't needed and is dangerous. Leave the registry alone and don't use any registry cleaner. Despite what many people think, and what vendors of registry cleaning software try to convince you of, having unused registry entries doesn't really hurt you. The risk of a serious problem caused by a registry cleaner erroneously removing an entry you need is far greater than any potential benefit it may have. There are several good defraggers, but as far as I'm concerned, there's no need to use any but the one built into Windows. Even that one needs to be used very seldom, if at all. Reg cleaners are rip offs. They false advertise and ruin your configuration.

I only used them with XP and they seemed to work fine.

Let me point out that neither I nor anyone else who warns against the use of registry cleaners has ever said that they always cause problems. If they always caused problems, they would disappear from the market almost immediately. Many people have used a registry cleaner and never had a problem with it. Rather, the problem with a registry cleaner is that it carries with it the substantial *risk* of having a problem. And since there is no benefit to using a registry cleaner, running that risk is a very bad bargain. Ken Blake, Microsoft MVP (Windows Desktop Experience) since 2003 Ken Blake

This is an example of what can happen from some registry crapware. Don't try this at home. http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itproinstall/thread/5e4436db-236c-4129-ba84-20641476b084/

Why is it when someone has bad experience with a piece of software they make blanket statements about ALL software. I have use regclean and the windows live safety scanner to clean up 1,000's of PC's not once have I failed to clean up the registry or had problems related to the cleanup. now in the old days (95 ~ ME) I have seen boot times halfed after cleaning PC's with bloated registry, since machines have gotten MUCH faster at booting you do not notice the bloat as much. How many of you have pulled he registry off a non booting box, cleaned it up and copied back to safe the day??? As a note over the past week I have used the windows live safety scanner to clean four PC's which would not function properly in some way..I.E. not allow updates / install of a certain app or missing icons on boot or just plain bloated with all the trash software folks install / uninstall. Now yes I could have sat down a hand edited the changes... but WHY???? MS has made a great set of tools for us to use...why not use them???
