Win 7 Users having to login twice (Double Login) into domain
I created an image for brand new computers with Windows 7 Professional 32 bit. These computers are connecting to an existing Windows Server 2003 domain. The computers were named the same as the old computers, but I removed the old computers from the domain before adding the new ones. I added 9 computers this way, and 4 of them are requiring anyone to type in their credentials twice before being logged in. The first login the information is accepted, and then shortly thereafter the login screen appears again. Upon entering the username and password a second time, the desktop comes up and everything works. Also some users are having to double click on the mapped network drives before they will connect, whereas others connect automatically. I am not sure if this is a deployment issue or if it is a networking issue. If you need any additional information I will happily provide it.

I've seen this problem as well with Windows 7 Enterprise x86 and x64. It didn't appear, at least in my case, that the problem was related to whether or not the computers were joined to a domain because I would see if joined or not joined.

I am also experiencing this issues with a number of my users. They are on different hardware and running Win 7 Pro.

Like JWL5537, I'm seeing the same behavior as you. Win7 Pro x86/32bit. In the morning I hit Ctrl-Alt-Del, enter my password, after a few seconds the screen goes black, and then comes back to the login screen again. I hit Ctrl-Alt-Del again, enter my password again, and voila, the desktop gets painted, and I'm logged in.

I think I may have found a workaround (not a solution). Got to Control Panel --> Power Options --> Change Plan Settings --> Change Advanced Power Settings --> "Require Password on Wakeup" = NO. This eliminated the double login for me and since I lock my pc everytime I getup, no biggie!

Happens with no users logged in.

I think it is related to being in the Administrators group. If I take my user id out it stops the double prompt right away.Dano

I have the same issue in our domain for Windows 7 x64 and x86. User logs in and sees desktop, then they get the windows logon screen again and must reauthenticate.

This has been acknowledged as a bug in Windows 7 and a hotfix is available: The logon screen appears two times when you resume a Windows 7-based or Windows Server 2008 R2-based computer from Sleep (S3) or from Hibernation (S4) http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;2345131
