Win 7 System restore points vanish!
Ok I installed Win7 back in December and it has been great. I decided to check system restore a few days ago to see whats new in Win 7. There were no restore points listed. So I created a few and all was well, then poof the next day after I checked my mail and played some music they vanished into thin air. I can never seem to keep any for more than a day. I have tried stopping restore, restarting, changing the size etc.. I do not dual boot and I do not have Office 97 installed. Many other people are having this same issue. All the services are running correctly. Any one have some insight?

Was just reading about someone with this on WinSeven forums recently. This person got it fixed with a Repair on their Windows install: http://www.sevenforums.com/performance-maintenance/49657-similar-no-restore-points-problem.html

We need to know if you have installed a third-party security application or backup software(such as Norton) which will cause windows 7 restore point loss. Usually, such kind of backup software may conflict with Windows 7's restore service. I suggest you boot into Clean Boot and stay in this mode for a few days as a test. If the issue disappears, we can make sure the issue was caused by one/some of disabled startup items.I've attached a link for your reference of Clean Boot:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135Meanwhile, I would like to confirm how did you install your Windows 7, Clean-install or Upgrade Install. If it’s a upgrade install, do you have any system restore issue in your previous OS? In addition, it is necessary for you to make sure there is enough free space in your system drive. I’ve noticed that you have mentioned about “system restore size changing”, temp folder and Paging files will use more free space if necessary and that may delete your existing restore points.PS: pls run the following command in elevated mode as an administrator and let me know the output. vssadmin list shadowstorage Good lucks!
