Win 7 Random computer file deletion/semi format.
Hello people! My name is Ethan and i have a problem i hope you can help me with. On Wed. 13th of October i shut down my computer normally with no problems, update notices anything odd, just windows is shutting down. The next day i turn it on log in and find that everything from my documents, pictures downloads EVERYTHING has been deleted(excluding installed programs, however i believe some where affected). My wallpaper was the default logo, the standard "pinned" task bar buttons were there and i had nothing. I am somewhat annoyed at the fact that i have lost so many files as lots of them where my school work. If anyone has anything to say it would be greatly appreciated and i can go into more detail if you ask. Thank you in advance, i hope to here some suggestions on my problem. ------- EMcLeod

First try to restore your computer . If dont know how to do then follow the steps as below : 1. Select the start button. 2. Select All Programs. 3. Select Accessories 4. Select System Tools. 5. Select System Restore. 6. Select Restore System to an earlier time. 7. Click next. 8. Scroll back to the date you wish to restore to then click next. The computer will start to shutdown, then will restore then shut down and restart itself

Hopefully, the system restore was successful for you. Have you recovered the computer? Get an external hard drive and create complete pc backups (a system image) and regular data backups to protect your computer and data from events like this. Physically secure the backup drive. Start>Help and Support>search backup will provide guidance. Also review your security software and security practices. If you must share your computer, enable the Guest account for those users. Microsoft Security Essentials is free and very effective. This appears like a malware issue or unauthorized user changes.

How does it work if you create a new user account? I just suspect that your user profile is damaged. In this case, if System Restore does not work, you may need to use a new user account instead. You can still get your documents and other data back from the folder C:\users\[oldusername].Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
