Win 7 RC and RTM
Having multiple computers; I am one of those who prefer the "Classic Mode", while I have not posted or made any comments at all, unfortunately - due to the Florida Weather and Storms it had wrecked havoc with everything here. I had to revert everything out of Win 7 and back to Vista Home Premium Mode all because I had downloaded everything to the flash drive and it blew up (FRIED)... YES - a power surge (and before anyone says they're a bunch of trash and waste of money - that is untrue, you get what you pay for, both of mine were extremely expensive surgers - this enabled me to bounce back and forth between Vista and 7 easily; Split Windows because I can boot to flash drive.)While my flash RC and RTM are now corrupted, I am out of Win 7 RC and Win 7 RTM to my dismay. (I don't like ripping things to DVD's when one can easily just zip them over to the flash drive easily - and mind you - it's faster and won't put wear and tear on your Laser Drive as well; but that is my own humble opinion there.)===========================I was still testing various phases and stances in that Classic Mode than the Win 7 itself; and I'd like to know if there'sa way I can re-download this as I have another flash drive to download it on and this time around, will download it ona DVD.These are my findings because I've been with computers since 1976 due to my deceased father being in US Government, I learned the command prompts on my own and had grown up on these things on my own being a teen. (Yes,I am an "Old Nag, but a very experienced old nag!" - *grins*) My days of being the Microsoft and IT Tech have long been over, and once the "Classic Mode" came to being - "IT WAS GOOD".1) I have a critical problem with Win 7's Classic Mode, that is my opinion - that is NOT the Classic Mode(Sufficient and ampleenough to imply to sustain even with Vista, there are a few issues there but nothing incomparison with Win 7's)a) Difference between 7's and Classic Mode - is due to the fact the ablities to access the system itself fasterwithout much ado. In other words, I can beat you via the Classic Mode using the RUN and typing in the commandsinstead of clicking here, click there, click here, and there, yadda, yadda, yadda. MY QUESTION HERE IS: WHY?(E.G. - System Info, I could have it before you would via the Classic Mode by just typing in in the RUN - I mean, personally - what gives? Why does one need to go here and there and all over the place just to obtain that whenone can merely click on start - run - and type in .....)2) Is it absolutely necessary to have more RIBBONS? I noticed that in the Office (did anyone else notice it or payany attention? *laughing*) - and I am like Whyyyyyyyyyyyy? My concern is this, not everyone has par excellencein vision - and these ribbons (plus other issues- such as browsers, and everything else, et al.) - is going to createa problematic havoc with those using Win 7, however under Classic Mode - err, umm, the settings itself seems tohave a mind of its own. (E.G. - If you opened IE 8 - Tool Bar - the font size can range from a 4 to a 18 (nota joke)under a 32 bit RC; and under the 64 BIT RTM - ironically - it floats. The Browser is not set on hover, but if onewere to mouse over it really does float; on some of the updates - I am not complaining here - I found it a sourceof amusement, it only did this under the "Classic Mode" but not under the Win 7 mode. But too much of this canbe a critical problematic issue for those who not only have visual impairments, but also neurological - especiallyEpilepsy; which can invoke / provoke seizures. (I have Epilepsy, so this is one reason why I prefer the Classic Modeis the unique ability to stop graphics quickly, something that Standard Vista or Win 7 does not have but is uniqueto the Classic Mode - right click and freeze it).For those who wants to understand MORE about these graphics and images that are of concern to peoplewith medical conditions - whereas that even video games by Federal Law are now required to post warnings ifthey fall into the "seizure provoking" range (one does not have to have Epilepsy to even experience these).http://tools.webaccessibile.org/test/check.aspxThe link above is a FLICKER RATE TEST - take some graphics and obtain properties and paste it and watch how they rateup to the World-Wide Standards; you will be shocked just how many images and graphics fail! Same applies with some moviesas well.So there are going to be people who are going to want that "Classic" Classic Mode.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~One unique and frustrating problematic issue I had found the most is, specific areas (in spite of the updates)will not stay put. Once a User has it set up (for example, Classic Mode) - I have found it to be a hassle to having to revert everything back to Classic Mode.IS THIS A KNOWN ISSUE or a TEMPORARY ISSUE - or no one even realized it?Thanks!:)

Hello, In Windows Vista and Windows 7, you can run any commands from the Search Box. This is a new feature in Windows Vista and Windows 7. Click Start button, you will see a Search Box. Type in the command you would like to run and then press Enter. If you would like to add the RUN on the Start Menu, Use the following method: 1. Click Start button, in Search Box, type in " taskbar and start menu " (without quote) and then press enter. 2. In start menu tab, click "Customize", then locate and check the option "Run command". You mentioned that specific areas will not stay put, can you tell me the detail? Thomas Lin

Honestly, this is the best OS Microsoft has released. It blows Vista out of the water. After they fixed the bug where it would freeze during any internet action I have noticed no problems. My only complaint is the icons seem to look odd. I guess it's something I need to get used to. I understand the whole select all, CTRL, mouse wheel up / down... still looks different. But regardless, I'm impressed with the ease of use and the small memory footprint. I've been watching my system resources and ya gotta love 0% - 20% with adobe photoshop or dreamweaver running.

Added to the Run.. dialog tips:There's always the 'classic' shortcut that still works:<Windows key> + <R> ;)Also, remember this: the Run.. box wasn't enabled by default in XP, either. We had to turn that on (in Start menu properties) there, too. It's not "a Windows 7" thing, it 'not being in the Start menu.'Why remove hand from keyboard, mouse your way to Run.., only to return the hand to the KB to type the command?Keyboard shortcut FTW!HTH,Chris [If this post helps to resolve your issue, please click the "Mark as Answer" or "Helpful" button at the top of this message. Well - if you used the search box for example in WIN 7one would have to type in for example%temp%Then one will have an array of break downs of everythingpertaining to that word or has that word in it.Not so with the "RUN" feature.I am enjoying Win 7 - but still sticking to my guns on theRUN feature ... does this make me a runner?:)Much thanks for not removing it - and please, no plans forWIN 8 likewise or in the future editions ...

You mentioned that specific areas will not stay put, can you tell me the detail? Thomas Lin It is no longer an issue now since I am on Win 7 Ultimate; but the specific areas that would notstay put were the configurations - or aka - settings. One would have to return and reconfigurethe whole kit and caboodle all over again; as Yogi Berra once said, "It's deja vu, all over again!":)Hoped this gives you more specs; if not - let's put it this way for an illustrative purpose:You have a 57 Chevy Bellair, just totally restored it all, finally decided to soup it up and throw inthe Holley Carb, and had opt for the split-fire spark plugs instead of the standard since they nolonger sell "Regular Fuel" - and tweaking it where it is lean than rich. There, you had it all set up."Did, done, dooed it" - as Mickey Rooney said. It was finished. Think again .... the next day, you put that key in the ignition and crank that babe up and onlyto find out you have to redo the whole danged thing all over again.Does this amplify the whole aspect in a humorous manner?:D
