Win 7 RC - 64bit clean install - no internet access
Hi all, have installed Windows 7RC -64Bit on my 3yr old Mesh Elite Desktop PC - It has an Asus P5NSLI Mainboard with latest Bios Revision from ASUS ,4GB Ram,300Gb Sata HDD -graphics card is NVidia (fitted with PC). Has Intel E7300Core Due CPU. Downloaded + installedokay. All seems to be working fine except I cannot access the Internet - Stubbornly refuses to connect. I use British Telecomm broadband router/modem for connection.downloadedlatest LAN drivers from web on another PC + copied them across to this PC. Its A Marvell YukonLAN Error response is something about the IP address, All the other PCs in the house (Win XP 32bit + Vista 32Bit) access fine. Anyone any ideas what the problem is I have rebooted PC (cold and warm boot) have rebooted modem/router, after leaving off for several minutes. Tried newLAN cableslast resortplaninstalling internal PCI wireless LANconnect via wireless rather than the wired accesswhich dont work. Have turned off the Windows Firewall, there is no Web Securiy suite installed so no other firewallsPrevious attemptinstalled Windows 7 RC, 32bit,system accessedweb via this modem/router but only with the Microsoft site, I was not able to load any browser (incl IE8) or access internet via browser. Was able to update Windows and activate but all done automatically. Any helpful suggestions

Hey Randell58 By right when you install win 7 it should detect all device on your rig and assign drivers.Fyi i'm also running win 7 RC with 64bit. Just a thought are u running a cable or dsl? Does your internet connection require you to install pppoe as well as inputpassword require by your ISP? If is cable and doesn't require pppoe and password then it should be pretty straight forward. There's a few option you could try, firstly i suggest you to connect to the modem directly and try connecting to the net without a router but before you do that ensure the the lan drivers is install properly under device manager>network adapter, verify there isn't any exclamation mark on it. Btw does your modem require a driver?Lastly it would help if you could provide us with the exact make and model of the modem and router

Thanks Daniel, connected thru a LAN cable link direct to Router, whenI plug in any other PC/laptop, usually just connects, only need input password when connect wirelessly.. Not sure what yuu mean by DSL - this is home environment, very basic/simple set up. I get similar responses to other forum membersI've been reading about, the Win 7 Network Centre help shows me connected to unknown network -unknown network to Web is red crossed. Run all the diagnosticsand turned off modem, rebooted PC,which reset to Lan IP address stillno luckCheckedDeviceManager which showsLAN working okay - there is one item yellow Exclamnot working but its unknown hardware so I dont know how to ID what it is, Was going to try update when I get on web.I wondered about a driver for this modem/router,supplied by UK Telecomm cmy + rebadged as BT equipmnt, difficult to tell who original eqpmnt maker is. Has software for it butcan only access complete softwareby downloading from BT website.I tried to downlaod Files and save it and when I tried to install on Win 7 PC it immediately tries to access Web for I asume the rest of the files it needs. Okay will try your suggestion tonite (at work now) and also try clean boot suggested in other forum threads. Disabling all start up programs. Final question do you think if i try connect via wireless internal PCI card it may over come this problem? Many thanks Randell

Many thanks Randell Hey Randell58If you connect to other pc and laptop with the same modem/router and it work butnot for this rig then needless to say thereshouldn't beany issue with your modem/router, instead the issue should lies with yourasus P5NSLI or it's device drivers. I've just went over to asus site and took a peep at the drivers mean for your rig, the drivers which they have are meant for win xp, vista but there isn't any lan drivers for win 7. I guess either the network drivers are not compatible or you might have got the wrong driversSuggest you do a driversupdate for the network by doing the following, open up device manager>click on the +sign of network adapter and select it next click on the top menu with a green arrow icon which says update drivers software, next choose search automatically for updated software and see whether windows assign a driver for itIfall else fails i suggest you to do what the other's forumer mention and do a fresh install of win 7 again, alternatively ensure that onboard lan is enable in bios

As a short-cut fix to your problem.LAN cards are cheap. Fit one in a pci slot that is the same as any of those on your working systems or temporarily 'borrow' one from one of them.If the new card gets you on-line you will be able to at least get all your updates and drivers for the onboard LAN device that is not working. You can then disable or remove the 'borrowed' card and try connecting again.

I have a new Asus M4N78 Pro with the Nvidia Gigibit Lan and I can't access the net either. I'm running the 64 bit version of Win 7 RC. I have searched around for an answer and I havewn't found one yet. When I do an ipconfig I get the message that no changes can be done with the media disconnected" I have no idea what this means. Any suggestions?

Hi. It means exactly whatit says. Yournetwork card is not active to show connections to anything else.Check the devices for yellow ?'s. Maybe it has no driver or the wrong one for Win7.If it is a driver problem, look on your network card manufacturers siteto see if they have aWin7 compatible driver.

I installed a PCI wireless card and bingo it worked straght away. So on board LAN was the problem I guess. I brought D-Link DWA-547 Wireless n Desktop Adaptor - worked straight out of the box and this is flying now. found AVG lite anti Virus program which also runs Win 7 - 64bit fine. I guess the old Windopws firewall will have to do for now until the vendors of security suites get their act together

Fyi my onboard lan also work out of the box without any additional drivers

I am having the same problem, also with the onboard Marvell Yukon chip of an Asus P5NSLI.This is not the old Vista problem with DHCP, btw. I am using static IPs now, still no luck. Back to old XP tonight. I am cured of any attempts to upgrade.

I have the same MB with the same NIC. I can ping the loopback, but it will not ping the router. I am currently on a Windows 7 system upstairs wired to the router. The cabling is fine. The drivers for the NIC are installed from the Windows 7 installation CD. However, there is a yellow ! in the Device Manager for some unknown something. It could be the the onboard soundcard because I have no sound yet or it could be a MB driver that the disk didn't have a solution for. I bought Windows 7 last December for this system and tried this once before. I gave up after a few days and went back to Vista for about 7 months. /facepalm
