Win 7 RC
I tried the Win 7 on two of my older computers. I have to say it worked extremely well and had thefastest boot up times...something I really hated w/ older computers.Anyway, I like Win7 so much (reminds me of SERVER 2008) that it now a must have.However, the down side was that I kept getting the BSOD (Blue screen of death) with the older computers after having enough play time. "Win7 is like crack. you get hooked on it" I believe that Microsoft might have a big idea in that they won't support legacy computers but will give "ANY older computer" the crack pipe if your willing to try it.Yeah, they got me (WIN 7 made me do it) to buy a new Dell T7400 of course I installed Win7 64 bit OS and used the 32 bit business vista dvd as paperweight for my junk mail.I think MS got it right this time with Win 7 ..perhaps the best OS of all time.Good luck. You had me at the RC!Mike

Hi Mike,I'm glad you like Windows 7. I can't say i'm in agreement with your comment "Win 7 is like crack. You get hooked on it" Don't get me wrong it's good but not particularly earth shattering. Strangely Windows XP is probably the only operating system that gave me the WoW factor. Windows Vista and, sadly, Windows 7 are a let down in that department.Regarding you buying a new Dell machine, this, actually, is one of my main criticisms that, in many cases, once again, many users will need to upgrade their hardware to run Windows 7 successfully. This is something that the Corporate sector will not be pleased to do, after all, like Vista Windows 7 is, primarily, targetted at the Corporate market. I think this may be a major stumbling block, however only time will tell - well and Sales figures as well:-)John Barnett MVP: Windows XP Associate Expert: Windows Desktop Experience: Web: http://www.winuser.co.uk; Web: http://xphelpandsupport.mvps.org; Web: http://vistasupport.mvps.org;

Mike - While I do agree Win 7 is a great OS to be using and such - I'm not so sure the crack thing would be a good way to be advertising Windows 7. I can just see it now... Apple would have a field day with that one.. "Hi, I'm a Mac, Hi, I'm a crack head..." That would not go over very well.

Mikeinnyc, It is great that Windows 7RC worked on two computers that were little more dated than computers today and it is even more fantastic that you were able to notice and take advantage of the fast boot up now in place. There are changes that Microsoft made and reasons they chose the direction they did to ensure boot up and shut down times were minimally interferring with a users day to day life.
