Win 7 Pro Remote Desktop broken
Network uses Server 2008R2. Remote to that machine OK but suddenly can't reach the Win 7 Pro machines. Not an authentication problem as don't get to logon. Error says computer can't connect. Had it setup and was working fine. What could have changed? Network clients are 2 Win 7 Pro and 2 XP Pro. All were working through RDC but now just the XP machines and the server work.

Hi, First, I would like to confirm that if it is able to connect with the Windows 7 by Windows XP. I suggest going to test it in the Clean Boot and trying to reset the router. If the issue persists, please move to the following steps: Please take the following steps to troubleshoot our issue: 1. Open Credential Manager and clear the Remote Desktop related information 2. Type the name of the user that you want to add in the Remote Desktop Users dialog box 3. Verify the Remote Desktop related services: remote desktop configuration remote desktop services Remote Desktop Services UserMode Port Redirector 4. Please temporary disable the antivirus and firewall on the computers. Please let us know if you have installed the certifications for Remote Desktop. If so please remove the certifications and reinstall when you try to connect via Remote Desktop. a) Click Start, in the Start Search box enter “mmc”. b) Click File->Add/Remove Snap-in. c) Add Certificates for “My User Account”. d) Find the certificate which is issued to the other computer. By default it is installed in Intermediate Certification Authorities\Certificates. Right-click and choose All Tasks->Export, save it as a backup. e) Remove the certification. Sabrina, Thanks for the reply. I believe I've sound the source of the connection failure. While I had opened a port in the Windows Firewall using Inbound Rules, that port is not being opened. I discovered this by using netstat -a to see port status. What could prevent the port from being opened? And, until recently, that setup had worked. So something changed (a Windows update?) How can I troubleshoot? Regards, Dennis
