Win 7 Pro - Default Hidden Admin versus User added Admin
I have an issue where I have software installed on a laptop running Windows 7 Professional. This is a stand alone laptop and not on a network. It's never been part of a domain before. The issue is when the software attempts to synchronize the database across the internet it reports access is denied. In troubleshooting with the developers we have found that the synchronization will work if we enable the hidden administrator account and run it via that account. This is not a viable solution however and I am trying to figure out what the differences may be between the hidden administrator account and a user created administrator account. There is obviously something different between the two. Additional inforation: I have tried installing the software as administrator, running the software as administrator, disabling UAC and all continue to fail. I also have another laptop running the same software under the exact same configuration with no issues. I would appreciate any advice, suggestions, or recommendations as I am completely out of ideas. Thanks. -Tony-Tony

The software is Act from Sage and it is scheduled to sync every hour. I can also force sync at any time. -Tony

Hi, Its is due to UAC..this is a new feature in windows server 2008 and windows 7.... It aims to improve the security of Microsoft Windows by limiting application software to standard user privileges until an administrator authorizes an increase or elevation. In this way, only applications trusted by the user may receive administrative privileges, and malware should be kept from compromising the operating system. In other words, a user account may have administrator privileges assigned to it, but applications that the user runs do not inherit those privileges unless they are approved beforehand or the user explicitly authorizes it. I think you got ur answer..Arjun {{www.winserver08.tk}}

I'm not sure I got the answer yet. I mentioned that I disabled UAC. Are you saying that even if I disable UAC, there is another layer of administrative protection that I need to get beyond? -Tony

That's the funny thing. I spent an hour with them on the phone Friday only for him to tell me that it's a Microsoft issue and that it runs fine as Admin. I'm going to call back today and try to escalate the case. -Tony

It turns out that there is something wrong with the user account. I created a new administrator account and ran the synchronization without issue. There must be something corrupt within his profile or something that has changed that is disallowing his user account from synchronizing. I plan to just migrate his profile to the new account, but I would really like to understand how to fix this issue in the event it comes up again in the future. Any thoughts on the best way to repair his profile?-Tony
