Win 7 PRO Sharing Mapped Drives By IP over WAN
Just a thought - have you tried accessing the share on your XP from a Windows 7 that is on the SAME LAN - just to rule out if it's a WAN issue or a 7-to-XP issue? What you may want to try first, is to install the Link-Layer Topology Discovery (LLTD) responder on your XP computer. You can download it here: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=5577

Not sure if this will help, but try adding "Everyone" to both the Sharing and Security permissions on the Windows 7's shared folder. Also, what might make your setup easier to manage, is to configure your 2 routers to bridge their LAN/WAN ports. That way you can have your other office on the same LAN, and you won't have to create static routes etc. I may be able to help you with that if you're interested, especially if you have Cisco routers.

Ole Thanks for taking the time to reply. I'm trying to share resources on the XP system so I don't have anything to share or change on the Win 7 system. The routers not CISCO as they are standard retail - Netgear N600 router at one location and Linksys N at the other. nothing fancy but the Internet service provider indicated they are fine. We're supposed to move to an MPLS WAN in the near future. With the standard retail routers, I have had to put routes in for each system on each LAN segment to pass through each of the Pt. to Pt gateway (192.168.1.2 & 192.168.2.2). Each location has its own Internet T1 as well and is a very basic setup with just a few PCs on each side and a few network printers. 192.168.1.1, 192.168.2.1 internal networks. We may end up dropping the Pt2Pt and future MPLS and just going to VPN routers on each location. The issue would still seem to persist with the Win 7 not being able to share over this WAN (a network drive on a Windows XP Pro system to use a MS SQL database with a application. That works fine for XP to XP shares but I can not get two different Win 7 systems to share the XP share directory. One is an almost pristine Win 7 Pro Thinkpad and the other is a WIn 7 Home Premium laptop. Wondering aloud, the connections on both of these laptops is wireless and all other connections are wired Ethernet. That should not matter but, I'm not nearly as versed in Win 7 as XP. We're talking about peer-to-peer network resource sharing here (not domain so W7Home shouldn't come into play but one is a Win7Pro. I have view tons of questions on this topic. Tried a few registry settings on the Win 7 system without any luck yet. Again, I can share without problem, local XP Pro share directories on the same LAN with these systems.

I have read many many questions and their answers on this topic but have not been able to figure out my issue. I have two locations, connected with a T1 point to point connection. I have Win XP Pro system at one location to share data to both. I have static Routes in place. I can map a drive over a WAN using Windows XP systems on each side without issue. I can map drive from a Windows 7 PRO system to a local LAN drive on a Win XP Pro system by name or by IP with no issue I can ping other LAN over WAN (each way) without issue to all systems, routers, etc. What I can't do: Map a drive from a Win 7 PRO system on one LAN on the WAN to a Win XP PRO system on the other LAN over the WAN I have tried turning off firewalls, etc. without luck. This is just so simple in Windows XP but clear as Mud in Win 7. Any suggestions?
