Win 7 Network browser not seeing other (XP Pro) systems
I'm having a lot of fun with Windows 7 RC1 32bit, but one problem I can't seem to fix. If I try to browse to my XP systems all I see is the Windows 7 system. When I do a net view from the Win 7 system, I get: System error 6118 has occurred. The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available I can net view all shares on \\Desktop and \\Webserver, both of which run XP Pro. I can start Windows Explorer using UNC names like \\Desktop\\HP_C (C: drive on HP Desktop), and once I've done that, I can then see all the shares for \\Desktop in the same Windows Explorer window. Likewise, my Win 7 system does not show when I do a net view from either of the XP systems, but does show shared resources if I net view \\dell-p370. Seems to be just the network browser that is not working yet all the necessary services (I think) are running. I am not using Home Group, just straight sharing. I have Comodo Internet Security suite installed, Windows Firewall is not enabled. I have 192.168.2.0 / 255.255.255.0 enabled in Comodo's Network zone.

Yes, it is a computer browser problem. Check that Netbios over TCP/IP is enabled (TCP/IP Properties| Advanced | WINS tab). Apart from that, the usual cause is a firewall blocking the Netbios ports. File sharing works fine for me with Win 7, Vista and XP.Bill

Thanks Bill. Netbios over TCP/IP is enable. I disabled Comodo Firewall and it still doesn't work. Doesn't the ability to use UNC names mean Netbios is working and all ports are allowed? Are there any tools I can use to see what's wrong or any data I can collect that might indicate what the problem is? Seems like the System error 6118 has occurred. The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available points to the root of the problem but everything I see for that problem has no effect or does not apply.

Rats! Self inflicted wound. I forgot to make the Workgroup name on the Win 7 computer the same as the XP systems. Just did that and it works fine.

I have the same exact issue. All computers on network are running Windows 7 Pro. I have one computer on the network that does the same thing and I'm running Comodo Internet Security with the firewall off. All computers are on the same workgroup. All computers are running Comodo Internet Security with no problem but the one in my bosses office. I get error 6118 when i run net view. I also access command prompt with administrative priveledges. Also, on the other computers when i run net view and than nbtstat for each node to locate the master browser their is no computer that is set as the master browser.
