Win 7 Logon is Slow
I was asked to move the following question to this Forum, because it was too technical for the Answers forum. My new Windows 7 computer is very slow when I logon and can hang for 10 to 20 minutes waiting for the User Profile Service. The computer and my user account are part of a corporate Domain. But the remote office that I use is not secure so it has been configured as a public network with printers but no local Domain Controllers. We have to use a VPN connection to access web and Internet services on the corporate network. I believe that the logon is so slow because I am on a functional network (with DHCP and DNS) but there is no connection to a Domain Controller until after the system loads a local cached profile and then I am able to open the VPN tunnel to the corporate network. If I leave the network cable connected, I will wait almost 20 minutes for the desktop to appear. But if I unplug the network cable, then the desktop will appear almost immediately. I have confirmed that DNS and WINS do not respond on the local network, until after I open the VPN tunnel. Does anyone know a better way to speed up the logon times without using a local computer account (I prefer the Domain User Account) or disconnecting the network cable each time I log on? By the way, logon is normal when I visit the home office and boot while connected to the main network.

Hi, Have you tied to install the latest version network adapter’s driver to have a test? If you do not, please try to download the latest adapter driver to have a try. Please make sure you already enabled the cached profile.then disable the policy related to "always wait for networks when logon" Otherwise, you may assign a IP address for your computer, then try to logon it to see whether the issue still persists. Final, can you check your Event Log and find out the related log to post here? This will let us better troubleshoot what caused the issue.
