Win 7 Home does not accept a known web address on 1 of 2 user accounts
I have a new Dell pc that came with Win 7 Home. I set up 3 user accounts. (1) Admin; (2) Jane; (3) Joe - all 3 have Administrator privileges. I went to Internet 7 browser to download two different programs on Jane's desktop. Both are https://.......and downloaded without problems. I repeated the same download programs on Joe's desktop. However, only 1 of the programs downloaded. The other one wa not recognized by Windows and after several attempts, including rebooting, it would not work. The message continually said it could not locate that address. I could get other address just fine. What is happening?

When you say it was not recognized by Windows what was the exact message? What are the addresses you're entering that wouldn't work? Did you type the address the same for all accounts? Did you create a shortcut on the IE toolbar (favorites) and then copied that favorite (if it worked for one user) to the other account favorites and then try launching that url on the other users account?MCSE, MCSA, MCDST [If this post helps to resolve your issue, please click the "Mark as Answer" or "Helpful" button at the top of this message. Hi, First, I would like to tell you that the IE version should be 8 in Windows 7. Please let us know the detail error first, it's better to collect a screenshot, and upload it to your public folder in your SkyDrive. As the IE8 works fine in Jane's account, and only one website fialed to work in joe's account. Please make sure the link you input is correct first. Then you can reset the IE setting to test your issue.1. Please open Internet Explorer, click "Tools", and click "Internet Options".2. Switch to the "Advanced" tab.3. Refer to "Reset Internet Explorer Settings" section, and click "Reset".4. Click "Close" when the resetting process is complete.5. Uncheck the "Enable third-party browser extensions" option in the Browsing box.6. Click "Apply", click "OK". In addition, I suggest you try to open the website using the IP address, you can try the following method, as the google, for example.1. Open the Command promote, input the following command, then press Enter.Ping www.google.comNow, you should be able to get a IP address, then you can test if you can open the website via inputting the IP address. If you can open the website via the IP address. Let's clear the Hosts file to fix your issue.1. Click the "Start" Button, type "%SystemRoot%\system32\drivers\etc" (without quotations) in Search dialog box and press "Enter". 2. Right-click on the "Hosts" file and choose Rename.3. Rename the file to "hostsold" (without quotations).4. test your issue again. I hope this can help you. John

1.) The exact message is "The page cannot be found - the page you are looking for might have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailalbe - try the following: correct spelling? (yes); reached this page by clicking on a link? (no)HTTP Error 404 file or directory not found., etc.2.) The address that will not work is: https://cmbhs.dshs.state.tx.us/cmbhs/webpages/default/aspx3.) Yes, the address was the same for all 3 accounts.4.) I was unable to "copy" the favorites address or the shortcut to the user account that would not work; because every time I copied from the account that would work, then I had to log off and I could no longer paste. At one point, when I tried to switch users, I received this error message:"3 programs still need to be closed""Waiting for search protocol - this program is preventing windows from logging off""SEARCH PROTOCOL HOST.EXE - APPLICATION ERROR""The instruction at 0x66f092a0 referenced memory at 0x66f092a0. The memory could not be written. Click OK to terminate the program". These are the available buttons: OK, Force Log Off, CancelI tried to recreate this message deliberately, but could not.I clicked only on the OK button.

1.) IE8 is installed (my mistake)2.) I have not been successful in installing SkyDrive (I need explicit instructions, apparently, on how to do this as I could never find a "download" button), but here is the error page message :"The page cannot be found - the page you are looking for might have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailalbe - try the following: correct spelling? (yes); reached this page by clicking on a link? (no)HTTP Error 404 file or directory not found., etc.3.) Yes, the web page was typed correctly and checked several times. It is: https://cmbhs.dshs.state.tx.us/cmbhs/webpages/default/aspx4.) I reset the Hosts file to hostsold, but this changed nothing.

sorry but no the link does not work....The page cannot be found The page you are looking for might have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable. Please try the following: Make sure that the Web site address displayed in the address bar of your browser is spelled and formatted correctly. If you reached this page by clicking a link, contact the Web site administrator to alert them that the link is incorrectly formatted. Click the Back button to try another link. HTTP Error 404 - File or directory not found.Internet Information Services (IIS)

One more thing, I removed the account (the one that would not work), entirely from the pc, then re-entered another account using a different name, giving it Administrative Priviliges, and it would not work. It appears that 3 Admin Priviliged accounts cannot be set up at the same time. This is unacceptable, so is it possible that there is something missing in the Win7 set up?

It worked for the other 2 user accounts, and it also works for other employees.

It is a misspell. Please try the correct link provided by Jens: https://cmbhs.dshs.state.tx.us/cmbhs/webpages/default.aspx. It is a ".aspx" page but in your previous reply it is changed to "default/aspx" which is incorrect.
