I can ping the server ip from win 7 pc I can \\ map to win 7 pc from w2k3 server I can not map from win 7 pc to server and I get error when trying to join w2k3 domain An attempt to resolve the DNS name of a domain controller in the domain being joined has failed. Please verify this client is configured to reach a DNS server that can resolve DNS names in the target domain I have checked dns server and client are same enable netbios over tcp/ip turned off all firewalls

from win 7 : Default Server: DNS3.xxx.xxx.edu Address:xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx from server I get cannot find server. Default Server Unknown. Address xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx same ip as default dns on win 7

That's good as Windows 7 knows where the DNS is soOn the W7 computers,Go to network connections - local lan connection - properties - internet protocol version 4 (TCP/IPv4) - properties -Use the following DNS server address - preferred DNS server add the IP address of your Domain server.Now try and join the computer to the domain.MCSE, MCSA, MCDST

Hi, Please also try the following: 1. Check if you can ping DC with its FQDN 2. Ensure that the TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper Service is started: 1) Log on to the client computer by using an account that has administrator permissions 2) Click Start, click Run, type services.msc (without quotations) in the Open box, and then click OK. 3) In the list of services, double-click TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper Service. 4) In the Startup type list, click Automatic, and then click Apply. 5) Under Service status, click Start to start the TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper Service. 6) When the service is started, click OK, and then quit the Services snap-in. 3.
