Hi, make a full scan with an AntiVirus Scanner like Microsoft Security Essentials and also scan your PC with Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware . This should remove the Spyware. thx for reply andre. can't scan with microsoft security cos the Win 7 has taken over all security and denies access, tried to re-install from windows download but get "already installed" mssge. installed spyware terminator, this has slowed it down and allowed me to create some restore points, good as my previous ones deleted when i tried to use them,i had to go back to image,in safe mode,to get any functions.i'm a beginner with computers and am having to learn fast! suppose i'll have to buy a product, something i was trying to avoid as some seem to be scams that promise but don't deliver ,so thx for the recomendation, bin told spyware doctor is also very effective....still over £20 thoughgruntgrunt

Hi gruntgrunt, Regarding such malware infection problems, it is recommended to contact Microsoft PCSafety Phone Support directly. The service number is 1-866-PCSAFETY (1-866-727-2338). PCSafety is a toll-free telephone number provided by Microsoft technical support for end-users that assists customers in removing malware infections such as viruses, spyware (including unwanted software), and adware. It also helps customers protect their computers by using Windows Firewall, Windows Defender, and Windows Update. Then, you may also try running the safety scanner in Safe Mode with Networking. Here are the steps: Step 1: Boot into Safe Mode with Networking =================================== 1. Restart your computer and start pressing the F8 key on your keyboard. On a computer that is configured for booting to multiple operating systems, you can press the F8 key when you see the boot menu. 2. When the Windows Advanced Options menu appears, select Safe Mode with Networking, and then press Enter. 3. Log onto Windows by using the Administrator account or any user account with the Administrator privileges. NOTE: In Safe Mode, your system display and Desktop will look and perform differently than in Normal Mode. This is only temporary. To return the system back to Normal Mode, we can simply restart the computer. Step 2: Run Safety Scanner ====================== 1. Open Internet Explorer and visit http://safety.live.com. 2. Click the "Full Service Scan" button to start the scan. Note: Depending on the amount of data on your machine this Scan could take anywhere from thirty minutes to over an hour. Your patience is highly appreciated. 3. When the scan is complete, please restart your computer. Hope it helps. Styx

I have seen this crap lots of late. The cheapest solution is to format the HD and start fresh. There seems to be several miscreants involved making new versions daily. Boot to the installation dvd or press F8 after the BIOS and select repair options. Select a system restore and choose a restore point prior to the malware appearing. Perform the restore, boot normally and perform a full system scan. Be sure to keep the browser that you are using updated with the latest version of Java and Flash. Be careful what you click-on when browsing. You should know which security software that is installed and that you are receiving a spoof message. Close the browser and restart the computer.

I was able to remove it completely this weekend. I was not able to access the safety.live.com or any of the other things. I had to do a system restore. I hit f8 and selected the options for repair but the system hanged after a long time. I kicked/yanked the battery and unplugged the computer to restart the computer. I started at a point previous to my infected prior installation. In hindsight, I have enabled the windows defender and did a full scan afterwards(about 3 hours).

This is the solution. I didn't see his comments but I used the same approach to resolve my issue. YOU DON"T NEED TO REFORMAT!!! I can't believe an MVP would suggest that option!

Installed IE on 10 computers last week and they all got this through the automatic downloads. If your don't fix this many will not stay with IE9.

NONE of your machines got this through Automatic Updates - they will probably have got it through cross-infection over the local network, so you need to investigate your firewalling practices and security protocols. -- Noel Paton | Nil Carborundum Illegitemi | CrashFixPC | The Three-toed Sloth

I've had much success using the following procedures: 1. Boot into safe mode w/ networking. 2. Run Combofix http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/anti-virus/combofix (If the virus won't let you run Combofix, run Rkill first ( http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic308364.html ) which will kill any known running malware processes and allow you to proceed with running Combofix. 3. Run Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (when installing accept all defaults) http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/Malwarebytes-AntiMalware/1186760019/1 4. Boot into normal mode. Scan with Microsoft Security Essentials. I've cleaned this virus off of 6-8 Win XP/Vista machines in the past few months using this method and it's worked every time. Just as important, after the system is successfully cleaned make sure everything is up to date to minimize future infection. www.ninite.com makes updating third party apps (flash, adobe reader, java, etc.) very quick and easy.

Here is what his happening. The customer downloads IE 9 from online then reboots the computers. Then I'm getting calls in the middle of the night. If it's not he auto update then what is it. All of these computers can't be visiting the same website and if they are they only thing they have in common is the update service. Look I'm not trying to bash the product. I like IE9. I'm a skilled a user so I can solve my problems with it but most users just want to work and I just want regular hours to work. I need to understand how this is happening.

I have now noticed this crapware is spreading widely. Seems that tools to clean it up are falling short, primarily due to extremes that the malware is going to to conceal itself and to block attempts to stop it. Try the System File Checker, press windows+r and then sfc /scannow Windows MVP, paid Remote Assistance is available for XP, Vista and Windows 7. Worse is that these program also disable internal tools meant to repair the system such as the system file checker. These rogue program also are able to disable MSE and rival security programs. I have had many machines come in with such rogue programs. Generally its extremely hard to recover client files as the CD/DVD is even disabled. Windows MVP 2010-11, XP, Vista, 7. The last few machines I had to clean up deleted all the restore points. Seems that the miscreants are working overtime to make it impossible to clean up. For this reason I strongly recommend using a DVD for backups of documents etc which cannot be infected. DVD is write once so malware cannot get to it. Windows MVP 2010-11, XP, Vista, 7.
