Win 7 64bit and network printers
HiI have trouble connecting to shared network printers from a laptop using Win 7Enterprise 64bit. The printerserver that shares the printers are a Win 2003 SP2 32bit server. I have installed 64bit drivers for the printers through the Print Management utility from the win 7 machine to the printserver. When I go to the server the drivers shows up and everything looks fine and dandy, but when I try to connect to one of the printer I the following happens:The Windows Printer Installation box appears, Connecting to Ricoh... On top of that a window appears saying; Connect to printer, Windows cannot connect to the printer. No printers where found. The account I use for this is a domain account with local admin rights.I can install the printers locally on the machine, but I would like to have them installed through the printserver.IT-support / Sys admin

The issue may be the spooler was not initializing properlyYou may try to fix it by:Uninstall all printers from the client machineStart regedit and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Monitors. Look at the child keys of "Monitors":Local Port, Microsoft Shared Fax Monitor, Standard TCP/IP Port, USB Monitor, WSD Port are all defaults installed with windows.Delete any OTHER keys other than listed above under "Monitors"Restart the print spooler from command prompt by:"net stop spooler" "net start spooler"regards from www.windowsadmin.infoManuPhilip

That doesn't solve my problem I'm affraid, since I want users to able to install printers themselves. I want it to work just as easily asin XP, double clicking a printer on a server installs it. End of story and no need for tech support. I should point out that this is an issue with on all Win 7 64bit machines we currently have in use. When I try this as a domain admin it just says it cannot locate the driver for that printer on the network even though it is there.IT-support / Sys admin

What is the model of the printer and where is the driver from? You need to deploy the printers to clients. Then the clients can connect to the printer. Deploy printers by using Group PolicyArthur Xie - MSFT

Ok, Now I have narrowed it down to this. The printer Drivers have different names. For example:The x86 driveris named Ricoh Afico 1060 PCL6The x64 driver is named RICOH Afico 1060 PCL 6I'm now trying to figure out how to get them to have the same names.Niklas Ramstedt IT-support / Sys admin

Because your server is Windows Server 2003, Windows 7 computers cannot print remotely with the Windows Server 2003 printer driver. Therefore you need to deploy the printers to the clients. You can try to manually add the shared printer on one client computer and test if it works.Arthur Xie - MSFT

The printers are mostly Kyocera printers and the drivers are direct from the kyocera website. I am "deploying the printers" with Group Policy.
