Win 7 64 bit internet connection issue
I am having the identical problem as shown here:http://pocketpccentral.net/blog/2009/11/11/windows-7-unidentified-network-limited-access-no-internet-connection-problem-resolved/The solution suggested did not work. I am running win 7 64 bit on a DELL XPS8000 which uses a broadcom ethernet adapter, and a HomePortal 1000SW provided by my ISP, which is AT&T. There are three computers and a printer connected to a D-Link DSS-5+ switch, which connects to the HomePortal all via wired ethernet. If I disable the local area connection as shown in the link, I get a red "X" to the internet as expected. If I double click the red "X" and run the troubleshooter/repair as an administrator, the internet connection is restored and the offending "Unidentified Network, Public Network" is gone! Once internet connection is established, it doesn't drop. This occurs upon booting the computer. Sometimes the internet connection will connect, but more often it will not. If I follow the above procedure, it reconnects consistently. The other two computers are running XP SP3 and have no such issues. Any and all help will be appreciated. I am working with DELL also to resolve this issue.

Hi, When the issue occurs, please run “ipconfig /all” on the problematic computer and check if a valid IP Address is assigned. Based on my research, I would like to suggest the following: 1. Update the NIC driver. 2. Update the firmware for HomePortal 1000SW. 3. Check how it works if you manually assign IP address, subnet mask, default gateway and the DNS settings to the wireless NIC referring to your network settings on a good computer. 4. If possible, please change the switch with a router to see how it works. Hope this helps. Thanks. Nicholas Li - MSFT
