Win 7 / IE 8 won't open swf
All of a sudden my desktop running Win 7 Pro / IE 8 will not open swf files such as http://www.markfiore.com/files/live.swf I can get this and other such files to open in Firefox but not IE8. Adobe flash Player has been uninstalled and reinstalled several times Adobe Shockwave Player has been uninstalled and reinstalled several times. I'm using Win7 Professional 64-bit IE 8 Adobe Shockwave Player 11.5.7.609 Adobe Flash Player 10.0.42.34 (uninstalled 10.1 thinking that was the problem) Also a brand new laptop (no programs added) running Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit won't open the file(s) either. Adobe Shockwave Player 11.5.7.609 Adobe Flash Player 10.1.5364 Both have latest Windows Updates -- which is where I think the problem is. These files used to open in IE8. Suggestions?

Are you running your browser in 64 bit? - if so, "To run Flash Player on a 64-bit operating system other than Linux, use a 32-bit browser." http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/000/6b3af6c9.html Adobe evidently does not yet make a 64bit version of Flash (just a thought)

Adobe Flash: The 32-bit versions are incompatible with 64-bit browsers. If you're using a 64-bit Windows, you can't use the default 64-bit IE and must switch to a 32-bit IE. A 64-bit version of Flash is announced since WW II (not exactly, but it's delayed beyond measure). Adobe Shockwave: No idea about 64-bit compatibility. Again, with a 32-bit browser you won't have any problems."I think there is a world market for maybe five computers. (Thomas J. Watson, Sr.)

Hi, If you do use Internet Explorer 32-bit in Windows 7 64-bit, but the issue persists, I would like to suggest you reset Internet Explorer settings and reinstall Adobe Flash Player to test the issue. If it does not work, I would like to suggest you create a new user account to test the issue in Clean Boot. Does it work? Seems the "Alert me when someone responds to this post" feature of this site does not work. I just saw my original help request on another site and it said it was answered. I don't know how this could be because I never knew any responses existed until today. Anyhow, I've tried all the above suggestions today and the problem still exists. IE8 > Tools > Manage Add-ons shows the Shockwave Flash Object. The Adobe Flash Player is not listed. Never is listed. I'm using Win7 (64-bit) and IE8 (32-bit) - both have all the latest updates. The latest versions of Adobe Flash Player and SWF Player are installed -- both have been uninstalled/reinstalled several times. Flash Player was uninstalled with Adobe uninstaller. I have reset the IE8 settings. A new user account was created and the issue was tested in a clean boot. It still does not work. Now when I saw my original request on this other site, the provided example url was shown as a link. I could click on that link and IE8 would open it. However, if the url was typed into the browser or copy & pasted, IE 8 would not open it. ??? What happens: Type URL into the browser > click enter and/or click on url window arrow > File Download security pop-up window appears > click open > browser window status bar shows download icon in bottom left > nothing. Not to slam IE but Firefox opens the swf files flawlessly. Any other suggestions?
