Whenever laptop returns from standby mode winxp shuts down and reboots. This is also true on return from hibernate mode.

Is Windows crashing with a blue screen? Are there any relevant or noteworthy events in the event logs (Event Viewer in Administrative Tools folder)? Can you upload any files in c:\windows\minidump to your SkyDrive, and provide a link?

i am not sure if this will help you but ive tried many many things for win xp standby probs.had a few driver issues..fixed.worked great.reformat..do again diff drivers..same prob ocurrs at times.redid drivers.fixed.latest issue i had all correct drivers..full format..sigh..do it here and there...found a HUGE issue that few look at.as we all know as laptop drivers..we use a usb mouse.i use a usb wireless.here is what i discovered with my dell e1705 gamer.for 1..too many usb perepherals really tax the power supply.i run a seperate num pad and a cooler and a usb wireless mouse.that is maxing my ability to power it all.now be advised..i run top end power supplyso i thoughtiwould cover it all.but..after so many many hours of gaming..my usb plug for my mouse/keyboard got wore out..short at the connector to usb.after removing the usb that was shorting..all standby disappearedfrom what i have been able to see from trial and error is that all of us laptop users should consider what we are using through usb.our power supply is limited and we can only power so much through usb.a SINGLE not up to spec item that draws too much power whether it is from a short or just needs too much juice sends system into standbyi personally can guarantee that changing items in usb config..as in what you plug in at 1 time..will stop the standby mode in some cases.if you are using a mouse/wireless mouse/heat sink fans/or even a printer in usb..you might want to pull all the plugs..use the built in pointer and try your best to overload system and get it into standby.i just cooked my system as hard as i could and found no prob untill i plugged in the old wireless/mouse combo.after looking at the wireless plug i found wear which probably = a short.after unplugging it and dropping my sons wireless gear on the laptop i have had ZERO probs..and i mean zero..so all my brothers and sisters driving laptops...keep it simple on the usb work.if it requires juice to run..think about it.if it is necessary as mine is for cooling..tweaked video..flashed bios so hot runner..keep other usb items to a minimum unless they are PASSIVE.please try this as i feel it might help all you guys/gals with the xp standby on our laptops..i accept all flames and do appreciate any kudos.it is what it is up here..help each other and brainstorm..or as in my case no brain..storm..lol pun.hope this helps and keep the faith..internet and tech is the future..even for us old guys...Dave
