Win8.1 start button in both left corners of the screen

I prefer to have my taskbar on the left side of the screen. In this position the start button appears in the top corner (which is fine). In the bottom corner there is "show desktop" button (in desktop mode). The problem is, when i move mouse in the bottom-left corner - another start button appears (over the time panel), making it impossible to press "show desktop" button fast, as there are very small area of it left (see screenshot: http://joxi.ru/MAjlEGxfDODlme ). The questions are:

  1. Why are there 2 start buttons?
  2. How can i remove bottom start button?

Hi Xorboo,

I hope you are doing good -

I am really not sure that why do you want to remove the start button from Desktop.

Besides - there are some third party applications which would help you to do this task safely but let me remind you that it would not be a recommended activity.

http://superuser.com/questions/612754/how-to-hide-start-button-in-windows-8-1

Please try to revert the changes back again and try doing it again after a restart.

Let me know the progress - I am curious to know!

Thanks,

Jupiter

Hi Jupiter, thank you for the answer.

Yes, i know some people want to remove  the start button completely, but thats not my problem. When the taskbar a pinned to the left side of the screen (instead of the bottom side - its default position) there are 2 start buttons at the same time (look screenshot: http://joxi.ru/V2VKba8TRD3MAv ):

  1. at the top corner - default "white" start button, which is always shown. I don't want to remove this button. On win7 (with te taskbar pinned to the left) the start button was at top-left corner of the screen too, so it is absolutely ok and i would like to have this button.
  2. at the bottom corner - hidden start button which appears only on mouse hover. I dont want this button to appear, because it overlaps with the "show desktop" button, which hides all apps and shows desktop walpaper. I want to delete this button, so i will be able to press "show desktop" button easily.

If i use some tools, like "+7 Taskbar Tweaker", i am able to remove the top standart start button, but the bottom button still appears on mouse hover: http://joxi.ru/v29l34kfJw6JmG , which makes it hard to press "show desktop" button.

It also appears if the taskbar pinned to the bottom side, but the "show desktop" button is in the right-bottom corner, so i can press it - http://joxi.ru/L21b6vZFBxYDAX . But i really like to have taskbar on the left side of the screen.

So, technically, what i want to do: move mouse to the corner on the "show desktop" buttoon -> press it -> see desktop.

What i get: move mouse to the corner on the "show desktop" buttoon -> start button appears here -> a have to precisely move mouse cursor a bit to the right, where there are no start button -> i press "show desktop" button there -> see desktop.

It takes much more effert, baceuse i have to aim my mouse at the smll thin "show desktop" button, instead of just moving my mouse fast to the corner and pressing it.

For me, it looks like a bug, that the start button appears on its "default" bottom-left position without regards to the taskbar position (like taskbar is always pinned to the bottom side of the screen), because the taskbar itself always contains start button, which is not hidden. I think this "hidden" start button should move with the taskbar start button. If it is actually a bug (i didn't find any setting to move this hidden start button to other corner of the screen), is there any way to report it and hope it will be fixed any time soon?

For example, as shown here https://youtu.be/k9vTM9cb_38 - after hiding start button with "StartIsGone" tool, the start button still appears on mouse hover. But when the taskbar is pinned to the left - start button is on the top corner, but the hidden start button remains and the bottom corner.

Hi, thanks for the sortcut button idea, i ll stick with it for now. Sadly, my keyboard has win button only on the right side, so its a bit hard to press win+d/e/r combinations with it (and i still haven't found a way to trigger my notebook's "Fn" button to work like win button with this combinations, this button doesn't throw any key_pressed events unlike every other standart keyboard buttons).

Also, it's weird, but sometimes this bottom start button stops appearing and i can press "show taskbar" button easily. It works until next reboot/relogging to current user (until restarting explorer.exe or something like that, i guess) - after that the start button appears again. It happened 3 times already and i haven't done anything special prior to this, so i still can't find any dependencies here. The top start button works fine, only the bottom one disappears. I will continue trying to figure out how to do that intentionally.

Hi,

I have to admit that here might be a rub if we prefer taskbar on left, but unfortunately I didnt find way to disable start menu on bottom left only.

If you prefer task bar on left, we could use win+D to show desktop.

Or follow the instruction as mentioned in blog below to restore classic desktop button back as workaround.

In the other hand, I will record this to database and see if someone could provide suggestion. Thank you for your understanding.
