Hi,When did this issue first occur? If recently, system restore could be under consideration.Try the following seperately to check:In the Screen saver settings, select an alternate screen saver, or set it to None, then click on OK. Run antivirus software to clean the system.Unplug any external devices including your mouse when power on the PC.If it is notobook, use battery only.Turn off Windows Sidebar as a test. The biggest difference between power on and reboot is on the power supply side. let us check the detailed report and please post it here.Click Start Orb > type cmd in the search box > right-click cmd in results above > click Run as administratorAt the prompt type powercfg -devicquery > press enter, it tells you what devices may cause problems with sleep mode Also, update all the device drivers including chipset driver, mouse driver and display card driver. Please run Windows Update and keep the system update to date.

Thanks guys!I tried this, and sleep is completely ramdom, sometimes it works and sometimes it does not, however, if I restart Windows (reboot) it always works, at least once, then from that point on it's a ____ shoot. My computer ilde, sucks up too much juice, need to conserve electricity... and I was hoping with the 8 million openly testing Windows 7 that problem like this would be resolved, the reason it's fustrating is that it worked on the same hardware in Vista perfectly. I must also let you know that I have Windows Home Server, can this be the culprit?

I would like to know if it is connected to a Windows home Sever or it is the home server. If latter, you must have installed LightsOut as a power management add-in that allows you to place your home server in sleep or hibernation mode at scheduled times. Described here right? If so, you better check the corresponding setting from it.

If it works after a reboot but fails after you have been working / playing then the chance is good it is something you run that does not exit as it should or will not allow windows 7 to sleep. My older Vfax program would not allow my netbook to sleep once I updated it the netbook sleeps just fine.I have MANY windows 7 Pro boxes and they all sleep or hibernate just fine.

To further troubleshoot the issue, prepare clean boot and monitor the issue:This method will help us determine if this issue is caused by a loading program or service. Refer to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135===============1. Click the Start Button and type "msconfig" (without quotation marks) in the Search Box and press Enter.2. Click Continue to verify the permission.3. Select the Services tab in the open window. Check the “Hide all Microsoft Services” option and click Disable All.4. Switch to the Startup tab and click Disable All.5. Click OK to save the settings and select Restart when prompted.6. Shut down the PC and power on it again to check whether or not the issue still occurs. Note: Temporarily disabling the Startup Group only prevents the startup programs from loading at startup. This shouldn't adversely affect the system or other programs. We can still manually run these programs later.

This is EXACTLY my problem, and I can't figure it out. I know this problem is old, but I am pulling out my hair trying to figure this one out. I will ALWAYS only get one sleep out of my computer. It has nothing to do with what I do with the computer, becaues I can start the PC, let it go to sleep at the "welcome" screen ... wake it up, and try to let it go to sleep again and that'll be it. Hoping you are still around and might be able to cross reference your hardware with mine to try and figure out what driver is being the piece of ____: Asus Blitz Formula (P35) w/4GB of DDR-1066. ATi 5770, Onboard sound & M-Audio Revolution 7.1, OCZ Vertex LE SSD, 2GB Seagate 7200.12, 1TB Seagate 7200.12, 500GB Hitachi Deskstar Intel Q6600, Dell WFP2407 via DVI, LG 42" Plasma via HDMI, USB-UIRT, Logitech EX110 Wireless Keyboard and Mouse, Cheapo Bluetooth doodad. Without removing each piece of hardware one at a time, I am out of ideas.
