Win7 networking doesn't work scheit
I upgraded my laptop to Win7 Home Premium 32. I have Win7 Ulti build 7100 64 on my desktop. The laptop accesses the desktop & net through a d-link wireless router. It was bad enough before when the laptop was running WinXP Pro SP3 and most of the share didn't work. Now that both machines have Win7, I thought networking would be a breeze. Not by a long shot. My printer on the desktop is seen but Win7 cannot connect to it. I tried using a local connection of USB001 but although the drivers loaded, it doesn't print. Only one share on the desktop can now be accessed from the laptop although there are at least eight or nine shared folders on the desktop. When I try to access the laptop from the desktop I get a dialog box asking for a password. I didn't set up passwords on my laptop. Both machines are part of the same workgroup. Everything was perfect under XP but under Win7 nothing works scheit. Will installing my other copy of Win7 HP 64 cure these headaches? Should I go back to XP which worked? Or just switch to Ubuntu or OS X?Fr Elise - Support the Heart & Breast Cancer Foundations.

Hi, Please try the following steps to troubleshoot the network issue. 1. Temporarily turn off firewall and antivirus program on each machine. 2. Assure the following services are started: Computer Browser, Server, Workstation 3. Modify relevant settings on each Windows 7 machine. a. Click Start and open Control Panel. b. Open "Network and Sharing Center" and click "Advanced sharing settings". c. Expand the current network profile (such as "Home or Work"), and then select the following options: "Turn on Network Discovery", "Turn on file and printer sharing", "Turn on sharing so anyone with network access can read and write files in the Public folders", "Turn off password protected sharing" 4. Write down the laptop computer name. Click Start button on Desktop and type \\laptop computer name, and then press enter. Can you access the laptop computer from Desktop? Thanks, Novak

The reason you were prompt by password is due to password protected sharing is turn on by default. Just have it turn off and you won't get the prompt anymore. Follow Novak step and you should be good to go

I don't even see an option to turn off password protected sharing. I'm having issues mapping drives on a domain so my situation is a little different but I've been receiving authentication prompts to and I'm out of ideas so I thought I'd give this password protected sharing a try but...I don't have an option for it. Not even under the Home/Work profile. Is there another way to turn this off?

I found it under the Home or Work group. You need to scroll down to find the password options.Fr Elise - Support the Heart & Breast Cancer Foundations. http://www.amazon.com/Gospel-Our-Lord-Jesus-Christ/dp/1449947565/ref=sr_1_15?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1265754374&sr=1-15
