Win7 Ultimate: languages?
Hello, a quick question which is probably easy to answer - but I need to be sure.Buying Win 7 Ultimate branded as a non-English version (i.e. in Italy it is sold as "Windows 7 Ultimate Italian), will I have the chance to switch to English GUI?Strangely, resellers don't answer to this question, so I began wondering if Ultimate is really "multi language"...thanksf.

Hi fabio_68, Language packs can be downloaded for computers that are running Windows 7 Ultimate and Enterprise. For more information, please refer to this Knowledge Base article: Windows 7 language packs are available for computers that are running Windows 7 Ultimate or Windows 7 Enterprise. Regards, Linda

Thanks Linda, does this mean the core language is in Italian (in my case), then I have to apply the US language pack? That's not exactly as having the core in English, I guess.... I thought the core always came in English, then for localized packages Microsoft would have included the appropriate language pack in the DVD. Is, then, possible to buy Win 7 in the US and then install it in Italy? (any legal/copyright constraint?) f.

If you buy an Italian version of Windows, the primary language is Italian. You will notice that if you want to upgrade an Italian Windows to a better version in English, you can't do that in place, you must change all system files (clean install from DVD). A multiple user (language) interface pack (MUI) changes the user interface, not some program internals (like the name "system reserved" for the boot partition that Windows creates on blank harddrives) that are addressed differently in different language versions. -If that doesn't bother you, you can buy an US version of Windows 7 Ultimate and change the UI (display language) to Italian, but it will remain an US version.Mobile AMD64 3000+, VIA Apollo K8T800 chipset, 1 G RAM, ATIRadeonMobility 9700, 20x DVDRW, C:XPSP3 (55G),D:WIN7 (25G),F:DATA (250G)

Well, what I want is having a full-English version, not an Italian version with an English language pack (that's what I'd get buying an Italian version and then downloading the EN-US language pack, if I got it well). So I guess I'll have to buy it outside Italy: is the version sold in the UK the same as the one sold in the US?Thanks!

Before you purchasing the English version of Windows 7, it is recommended contacting Microsoft Customer Service in Italy first. Please confirm with them if there would be any problem such as activation and legal/copyright constraint.

Customer Service just told me it's OK buying a copy abroad and then install, activate and use it here in Italy. The only thing is that if bought in the US there will be no suport, while, if bought in the EMEA region, support will be granted. Is there anyone who knows if UK and US Win 7 versions are the same?f.
