Win7 RTM - Cannot copy large files from server 2003 when connected with WiFi
I have a puzzling problem. We have 2 different Win7 RTM Laptop clients that when connected via WiFi can connect to our Server 2003 R2 and XP shares, browse and copy small (up to ~5Mbyte) files, but copying or opening anything larger fails. A large file copy starts off with say 45 secs remaining, but this soon increases to 30 mins or even hours, then a failure box pops up as per this link, but the remote disk still appears to be available in windows explorer and small files can be immediately opened or copied. Just occasionally it fails with error 0x8007003A. http://mss.www.idnet.com/copyerror1.PNG http://mss.www.idnet.com/copyerror2.PNG Client 1 - Dell M65 laptop with integrated WiFi card (Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG). This machine works perfectly with Win7 RC1 (7100), copying a 180Mbyte file in 70 secs, but fails as above on Win7 RTM. (I still have the RC1 installation on a separate disk and I have confirmed that this still works) This machine also works perfectly on its wired Ethernet 100MB connection. It fails on 2 different wireless networks. Client 2 – Dell Vostro 1510 with Dell 1395 WLAN mini card also fails on WiFi but is OK on wired Ethernet. However if on Client 1 I connect to a share on Client 2 (both Win7 RTM) or the other way round with both connected by WiFi all works fine, but fails if the client is connect by wireless and the server wired.I have tried both the default drivers installed with Win7 and Dell Vista Drivers from the Dell website, Uninstalled AVG anti-virus and disabling IPV6 without any success. Another Win7 RTM on our network works fine wirelessly from our Server 2003, as do several other XP machines, both wireless and wired. Thanks for any help/suggestions.Tim.

Hi, Please refer to the following steps to troubleshoot the issue. 1. Temporarily turn off the firewall on each machine and router (if it has) for a test. 2. Copy some different files via Wireless to check the result, such as video files and documents. 3. Upgrade the Motherboard driver and Wireless adapter driver. For your reference, I have enclosed the detail downloaded links below: Intel Mobile Chipset Intel Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection Please Note: Microsoft provides third-party contact information to help you find technical support. This contact information may change without notice. Microsoft does not guarantee the accuracy of this third-party contact information. 4. If the issue persists after performing above steps, please restart the computer and boot in Safe Mode with Networking, and then copy the same files again for a test. What's the result? Thanks, Novak

Novak,Many thanks for your help.I have disabled all FirewallsI installed Intel Mobile chipsetIntel Pro/Wireless driver was already installed, so I did a repair installation.Unfortunately the problem still exists.Booting into Safe mode with networkng still shows exactly the same problems. A little further information. The Win7 Clients can write OK to the server. Trying to write from the server 2003 to a Win7 share fails with a delayed write failed.ThanksTim.

Apologies for the delay in replying. This is a production machine and my short term fix was to put my Win7 RC1 disk back in that did not exhibit the problem.I have nowdone a fresh Win7 RTM install, checked that it uses the same driver files as RC1 and the problem as described above exists on my hardware and 2 different networks with Win7 RTM but not Win7 RC1 or XP. In an attempt to fixthe problemI have runtcpoptimerer http://www.speedguide.net/tcpoptimizer.phpbut this did not improve the situation, butI have left the setting at their default optimum.I have then manually edited TCP Parameters in the registry and by trial and error nowhave a working system on both networks.I am not sure that the problem was the same on both networks as at times I have had thelaptop running on one butnot the other network.I can't say that I understand these setting and may well have a very unoptimized setup, but the main thing is that it works!Posting this as it may help others who hit the same problem.Tim[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\Tcpip\Parameters]"ICSDomain"="mshome.net""SyncDomainWithMembership"=dword:00000001"NV Hostname"="MSS-Tim""DataBasePath"=hex(2):25,00,53,00,79,00,73,00,74,00,65,00,6d,00,52,00,6f,00,6f,\ 00,74,00,25,00,5c,00,53,00,79,00,73,00,74,00,65,00,6d,00,33,00,32,00,5c,00,\ 64,00,72,00,69,00,76,00,65,00,72,00,73,00,5c,00,65,00,74,00,63,00,00,00"NameServer"="""ForwardBroadcasts"=dword:00000000"IPEnableRouter"=dword:00000000"Domain"="""Hostname"="MSS-Tim""SearchList"="""UseDomainNameDevolution"=dword:00000001"EnableICMPRedirect"=dword:00000001"DeadGWDetectDefault"=dword:00000001"DontAddDefaultGatewayDefault"=dword:00000000"EnableWsd"=dword:00000001"QualifyingDestinationThreshold"=dword:00000003"TcpWindowSize"=dword:00020000"GlobalMaxTcpWindowSize"=dword:00020000"EnablePMTUDiscovery"=dword:00000001"EnablePMTUBHDetect"=dword:00000001"SackOpts"=dword:00000001"DefaultTTL"=dword:00000040"TcpMaxDupAcks"=dword:00000002"Tcp1323Opts"=dword:00000003"TcpMaxConnectRetransmissions"=dword:00000005"DhcpNameServer"="192.168.1.200""DhcpDomain"="xxxxxxxxxxxxx.com"

Has anyone gotten an answer to this issue? I have the exact same problem and it's only when copying files from my 2003 server to my win 7 ult. It looks like the origional peson who started this thread was able to resolve his own issue but it I have been unable to replicate his results. I would be willing to take up where he left off if possible. Server : win 2003 SP1 std Client : Win 7 ult Wireless going through DGN2000 netgear Everytime it fails it gives the error http://mss.www.idnet.com/copyerror2.PNG No other events are loggd in the system or event logs of the server or client I have tried: 1. netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled 2. Click Start – Control Panel – Programs – Trun Windows features on or off - Uncheck “Remote Differential Compression” and click OK. Reboot 3. All drivers are up to date 4. I have checked the article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/330174 and I dont think this will resolve the issue because if I copy the large file from another computer to my win 7 machine over wifi it works just fine, i only recieve the error when i try to copy the files off of my win 2003 server to my win 7 machine over wifi. Any help would be appreciated Andy

Did you ever get a resolution to this - I'm experiencing the exact same issue problem when copying from an XP machine to a Win 7 ent machine. To be fair I'm connecting via wireless and a firewall to the other machine but even so it seems to fail? Thanks Nick
