Win7 RC1 Error message
I get the following error message at bootup: Windows Defender Error 0x80070422 This error message started after I downloaded, installed UWTv2.0 (Ultimate windows tweaker v2.0) and rebooted. I deleted UWTv2.0 but the error message is still there. Sometimes I can restart WD using the start button in the error message window, sometimes I can't. I have gone into Services and restarted it (delayed start)but it reappears at bootup. I have run malware, av, and antispyware scans with no success. Any suggestions how to fix this?System: P4 3.2Gig, 2Gig Ram, 320 Gig HD, ATI 2400 Pro 512 mb Graphics Win7 RC1 Ultimate

Your computer probably doesn't like Defender running, since you have other AV apps I recommend turning Defender off / uninstalling it.Hey there! Please reply back promptly so we can answer your problem faster!JoelbX's favorite threads | Skydrive | Cool 'gadget' programs: Visit websites

The problem started after "Ultimate windows tweaker v2.0" so you then deleted it. By the term delete do you mean removing it via Programs and features or just deleting from the hard drive - what I'm getting at is there may be left over registry entries from the tweak toolinterfering with the Defender application.

Hi, Some system files may be broken by the UWTv2.0. I suggest performing System Restore first: System Restore ============= 1. Click the Start Button, type "system restore" (without quotations) in the start search box and press enter. 2. Click "Choose a different point" and click next. 3. Check Show more restore points box. 4. Choose a date before this issue happening, and click Next. 5. Click Finish. If the issue persists, run SFC: Use the System File Checker (SFC) =========================== 1. Click Start, type "cmd" (without the quote) in the Start Search bar, right-click cmd.exe and click run as administrator. 2. Input the following command and press Enter. sfc /scannow If it still does not work, you can try In-place upgrade: In-Place upgrade (Repair install) =========== 1. Start the computer by using the current Operating System. 2. Insert the Windows 7 DVD in the computer's DVD drive. 3. Use one of the following procedures, as appropriate: If Windows automatically detects the DVD, the Install now screen appears. Click Install now. If Windows does not automatically detect the DVD, follow these steps: a. Click the Start Button, type Drive:\setup.exe in the start search box and then click OK. Note: Drive is the drive letter of the computer's DVD drive. b. Click Install now. 4. When you reach the "Which type of installation do you want?" screen, click Upgrade.Vivian Xing - MSFT

Hi,guysI just got back on line. I will try your suggestions ASAP. The problem is a little more complicated sincemy first post. I did use Programs to remove UWT. Since my post I've lost the ability to get on the Internet using Win7 RC1, although I can get on using Win XP Pro (320 Gig HD is partitioned 160 Gig each-XP Pro and Win7), which I just found out might be the reason I can't keep any restore points in Win7. I hope your suggestions will remedy that problem. I'll keep you posted. Thanks

Tried all suggestions with no luck so I bit the bullet and reformatted and reinstalled Win7 RD1. Working OK so far. However, I can't get Bit Locker to work. Tells me I don't have some kind of platform or service. Any help on that?

Your computer probably doesn't like Defender running, since you have other AV apps I recommend turning Defender off / uninstalling it. This is virtually never good advice. Windows Defender can and does work side by side with antivirus software. They are not the same thing. Indeed, Windows ships with Defender and requests that you add antivirus.Regarding your latest problem, frajul2, can you be a bit more specific about what's in the latest error message? Jot it down and let us know, please.-Noel
